Indigenous Peoples are among Earth’s greatest champions. For generations, they have protected natural resources and biodiversity. Their knowledge and practices support sustainable environmental management and help address climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. Yet, they continue to face systemic marginalization and threats to their rights and livelihoods. UN Environment Programme works to uphold the rights of Indigenous Peoples and strengthen the protection of environmental defenders.

For millions of people worldwide, surviving on less than $2.15 a day isn’t just difficult to imagine — it’s a daily reality. Beyond the struggle to meet basic needs, families living in poverty often face stigma and unfair treatment. “Poverty is an affront to human dignity and a denial of human rights. It closes off opportunities and leaves people more exposed when crisis strikes,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Saturday’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. “Let us mobilize the political will and investments needed to ensure everyone has a safe home, and the opportunity to build a life of dignity, free from poverty.”

“Over one million species now face the risk of extinction, edging us ever closer towards an uninhabitable world. It doesn’t have to be this way.” At the COP17 Biodiversity Conference, UN Secretary-General António Guterres calls for more action, speed and will to make peace with nature. “Our world is being battered by conflict, climate chaos, food insecurity, disease threats, and more. Biodiversity is not a separate challenge. Addressing any of these crises requires addressing them all. And there is no time to waste.” https://lnkd.in/gk-iRN_s

The future of work needs a human focus. As AI and digital platforms reshape labour markets, the challenge is not only adapting to technological change, but ensuring that its benefits are broadly shared. While new technologies can boost productivity and create opportunities, they can also deepen existing inequalities if workers lack access to skills, protections and support during transitions. Policies must evolve to protect workers, support lifelong learning, strengthen social protection systems and ensure that productivity gains translate into shared prosperity for all.
