Dominant drivers for the increase are the need to focus on core operations due to a highly volatile macro backdrop and, related, the intention to dispose assets that have become unattractive to the seller. By contrast, deleveraging has slipped sharply down the agenda as a motivation. On the other side of the ledger, winning carve-out opportunities will be down to certainty of execution: deliverability tops the list of seller priorities, ahead of price. Finally, AI is playing an increasing role in identification and diligence processes. In a marked shift that highlights its growing importance, nearly three times as many respondents as last year say AI is becoming an important part of these processes. Stay tuned for more in January 2026. "Another challenging year for businesses as governments in the UK and US have made frequent fiscal changes, catalysing corporates to consider their priorities for the time ahead, with many opting to sharpen their focus and divest non-core areas." - Tristan Nagler, Partner and Head of AURELIUS Investment Advisory.

Buy-and-build is more than just a growth strategy: Eric Blumenthal, Partner at AURELIUS Growth recently spoke to Olivia Harder, FINANCE Magazin, to discuss why a substantial part of the value in buy‑and‑build comes from successful integration, and why hasty acquisitions of add-ons, as was often done in the old days, is no longer enough. In the conversation, Eric advocates ‘Buy&Build 3.0’, which in his view should incorporate value-creating integration measures as standard, with a view to attract secondary investors.

Donatus Albrecht, Partner at AURELIUS Investment Advisory, recently spoke at the Private Equity Insights conference in Munich. On the topic “Best Investment Strategies: Sector Specialist or Multi‑Focused”, he highlighted that while specialisation can be highly valuable, what ultimately matters most is being a skilled investor. That means understanding the full journey: how to buy, how to structure and execute deals, how to improve businesses, and how to sell. Just as important is the ability to adapt the investment philosophy to changing market conditions. Thanks to fellow panellists Joern Pelzer (Founding Partner, PINOVA), Fritjof Franz (Managing Partner, Capiton), Simon Christ (Investment Director, Bridgepoint Group) and Manuel Deimel (Head of Co-Investments, YIELCO Investments) for the great discussion, and Hasan Qaiser Quaiser for the invitation.

An event that showcased the breadth of expertise across AURELIUS from astute dealmaking to operational value creation and innovative private credit solutions.
