Coimisiún na Meán’s Post

📢 Our Commissioner for Broadcasting and Video-on-demand, Aoife MacEvilly, welcomed delegates this morning for the first day of the 64th EPRA Conference, and highlighted the value of international cooperation in meeting shared regulatory challenges. Stephanie Comey, Chairperson of EPRA and Director of Media Literacy & User Education here at Coimisiún na Meán, formally opened the conference and spoke about the importance of collaboration and cooperation among regulators across Europe.  Throughout the day, regulators from across Europe examined the implications of declining trust in media and society, and the role National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) can play in responding to this evolving challenge.  Drawing on recent research showing a continued decline in public trust in news across many markets, delegates then discussed the factors contributing to this trend and considered how regulators can support media organizations in fostering trust, credibility and public confidence.  Sponsored by Stanislav Matějka, EPRA Senior Vice-Chairperson, and developed by John William Carey, Senior Associate, Content Policy, Ofcom, and Rowena Burke, Head of International Content Policy, Ofcom, the session explored how declining levels of trust affect the wider information environment and, ultimately, the effectiveness of media regulation.   🫱🏼🫲🏼 Thank you to all speakers, panelists and delegates for contributing to today's insightful discussions. We look forward to continuing the conversation throughout the conference.
