OpenAI has announced the "Rosalind Academic Plan" (https://lnkd.in/eP9iXYRu), an initiative providing eligible academic research labs in the U.S. sponsored access to "GPT-Rosalind", a specialized AI model designed for life sciences discovery. Key Plan Highlights are provided below: - Free Access: Approved academic labs can receive up to 30 Business Standard seats at no cost for up to 12 months. - Core Capabilities: Integrates frontier reasoning with the Rosalind Workbench to support workflows across medicinal chemistry, genomics, wet-lab assistance, protein and drug design, disease detection, and RNA therapies. - Data Privacy: Research data shared through the plan is not used to train OpenAI models by default. - Target Audience: Principal Investigators (PIs) and lab leads at U.S. universities without an existing Enterprise agreement can apply directly through a trusted-access process. Labs with an existing Enterprise agreement must apply through their institution's system. Safety and Verification: To prevent misuse involving sensitive biological contexts, access requires institution and identity verification, professional background checks, and assigned safety contacts. Safeguards continue post-activation through ongoing monitoring and contextual safety checks. API access is currently excluded from this plan.
We’re expanding access to GPT-Rosalind for academic research. The new Rosalind Academic Plan helps scientific labs at academic institutions bring AI into the work of understanding biology, exploring ideas, and deciding what to test next—with sponsored access for eligible labs at U.S. universities. Academic research creates knowledge that entire fields build on. A fundamental question about biology can open new directions in medicine, drug discovery, or our understanding of disease. We want more researchers to have access to tools that support that work. GPT-Rosalind is built for life sciences research, helping scientists reason across scientific literature and biological data. Researchers bring the expertise and judgment to evaluate the evidence and decide which ideas to pursue. Eligible labs can receive up to 12 months of sponsored access to OpenAI tools, with GPT-Rosalind access subject to trusted-access approval.
