We’re expanding access to GPT-Rosalind for academic research. The new Rosalind Academic Plan helps scientific labs at academic institutions bring AI into the work of understanding biology, exploring ideas, and deciding what to test next—with sponsored access for eligible labs at U.S. universities. Academic research creates knowledge that entire fields build on. A fundamental question about biology can open new directions in medicine, drug discovery, or our understanding of disease. We want more researchers to have access to tools that support that work. GPT-Rosalind is built for life sciences research, helping scientists reason across scientific literature and biological data. Researchers bring the expertise and judgment to evaluate the evidence and decide which ideas to pursue. Eligible labs can receive up to 12 months of sponsored access to OpenAI tools, with GPT-Rosalind access subject to trusted-access approval. For OpenAI, the Product challenge will be making Rosalind useful without weakening scientific rigor. In research workflows, provenance, reproducibility, and clear separation between evidence and model inference may matter as much as the quality of the answer itself.
Making AI more accessible to researchers is a great step towards discoveries in science and healthcare.
It seems these tech companies don't understand the meaning of slowing down. Why this race is so much more important for you than the safety of all humans? I hope everyone, for once, remove their corporate LinkedIn facade and say what needs to be said. Even those building it are warning but the race goes on. Everyone need to unite against this AI boom and stop it untill we figure out..no rathar prove how to control or align it (if that is even possible). We don't let a plane fly or a drug hit the market until it's proven safe. Why is AI the exception???? We cannot align today's AIs so there is lesser chance of doing that with future AIs. People: pls open your eyes and educate yourself on the risks, and call for more regulations at the least. AIs are not a new tool or technology, these are the biggest change ever existed and the implications are mind boggling mostly in bad ways if we don't try harder.
"Researchers bring the expertise and judgment" is the right framing. We see the same in marketing at JOJO's: AI helps us test 40 to 100+ ad creatives a month, but a human still decides which idea is worth backing. In biology, where a test costs months, that split matters even more.
Expanding AI access for academic research could help accelerate discoveries across the life sciences. Combining scientific expertise with AI-driven analysis may open new paths for understanding complex biological problems.
Opening GPT Rosalind to university labs is a smart way to put powerful tools where foundational discoveries begin. Giving researchers up to twelve months of sponsored access while keeping their expertise and judgment at the center feels like exactly the right balance. I am genuinely optimistic about the medical breakthroughs this could help spark.
I'd love to hear whether this helps a lab explore a question it previously had to set aside. Giving researchers room to follow an uncertain idea feels like a meaningful use of sponsored access. The interesting outcome may be a better question to test next.
Interesante iniciativa para acercar la IA a la investigación académica. El valor estará en combinar estas herramientas con criterio científico, transparencia y validación rigurosa.
Nice! Just curious - what’s the story behind selecting the name Rosalind?
