Air pollution is one of the world's largest environmental health risks, yet clean air action remains a small and highly concentrated part of development finance. This new guide from Clean Air Fund and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) provides an overview of the financial instruments, mechanisms, and institutional arrangements that can support clean air action. Our Common Air Commissioners Jane Burston OBE, Dr. Jemilah Mahmood, Shirley Rodrigues and Christa Hasenkopf were expert reviewers of the guide. CAP adds another arrow to its quiver. Following our recent North Coast Courier feature on air pollution in iLembe, we’re pleased to share another step forward for community air-quality monitoring. Thanks to a generous grant from the Open Air Foundation, Communities Against Pollution has added an AirGradient Max to our monitoring independent network. The Max is being co-located with a reference air-quality monitoring station for calibration and performance checks before deployment. Once ready, it will give CAP the ability to respond quickly to suspected pollution hotspots and collect local data on fine particulate matter (PM₂.₅), carbon dioxide (CO₂), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and ground-level ozone (O₃). This adds an important capability alongside our growing network of fixed monitors: When a potential hotspot emerges, we can take the monitoring to it. Measure. Understand. Act. 🔗 Read the North Coast Courier article: https://lnkd.in/dEyhBDpe #AirQuality #CitizenScience #CleanAir #AirPollution #CommunityMonitoring #AirGradient

Half a century of cooperation to protect the 🌊 Mediterranean marine environment were marked today (6 October 2026) as the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) celebrated its 50th anniversary 🎉 Over the past five decades, REMPEC has helped 20 Mediterranean countries establish operational marine pollution contingency systems, provided 24/7 expert support through the Mediterranean Assistance Unit, and trained more than 5,000 government officials and volunteers in pollution preparedness and response. Its work has also supported countries in strengthening legislation to prevent pollution from ships and contributed to regional efforts towards the transition to lower-carbon shipping. 🔗 Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/e9PYkdtp 📹 Watch the full video: https://lnkd.in/eSThyDJJ #Ocean #MarineEnvironment #Mediterranean

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending REMPEC's 50th anniversary in Malta. The anniversary meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on five decades of international cooperation in preventing, preparing for and responding to marine pollution incidents, while also considering future priorities for stronger regional collaboration. A key theme from the meeting was the importance of organisations such as REMPEC in turning policy into practice. Regional cooperation mechanisms provide a vital bridge between international commitments and the practical preparedness, capability development and coordination needed to respond effectively when incidents occur. The discussions also offered an encouraging reminder that multilateralism remains essential. At a time when parts of the world are trending towards more transactional bilateral relationships and greater isolationism, the meeting demonstrated the continuing value of countries, international organisations and industry working together. Oil spills do not respect international borders, and an effective response will often require coordinated engagement across a wide range of international stakeholders. Beyond the formalities this was also a nice opportunity to catch up with some familiar industry faces as well as meeting some new ones.
