On Tuesday evening the Chicago International Arbitration Center and Troutman Pepper Locke LLP hosted a program on 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀. Thank you to Victoria Alvarez, Kyle Richard Olson, Svetlana Gitman and Matt Furton for sharing your vast experience and insights and for providing many practical takeaways. The discussion offered guidance on how to craft dispute resolution processes that enable adversarial parties to avoid unnecessary conflicts, when specificity is beneficial and when it can create additional challenges, the value of an institutionally administered versus an 𝘢𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘤 arbitration, and much more. We look forward to presenting more programs featuring engaging speakers and addressing important issues in international arbitration. ⭐Elated to have attended an insightful session with Ulrich Kopetzki sir, Acting Director for Europe, International Chamber of Commerce Dispute Resolution Services, on the Role of Arbitral Institutions and Arbitration Rules. What stood out to me was his discussion on why parties choose institutional arbitration, supported by practical insights and statistics. The session offered a valuable perspective on how arbitral institutions and well-established arbitration rules contribute to greater structure, efficiency and predictability in international commercial arbitration. ⭐The ICC arbitration session was particularly enriching and strengthened my understanding of institutional arbitration and its significance in cross-border dispute resolution. ⭐Grateful to Sir for sharing his experience and insights, and to Tino Wasner and Faridun Isomatov for moderating and facilitating such a meaningful session, with thanks to Central Asia Dispute Resolution Association for organizing the International Arbitration Summer School. A valuable learning experience and one I will carry forward in my journey towards International Arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution. #InternationalArbitration #ICCArbitration #InstitutionalArbitration #CommercialArbitration #Arbitration #DisputeResolution #InternationalLaw #CrossBorderDisputes #ADR #LegalProfession #LawStudents #adhoc #ICC

Australian Arbitration week is off to a great start. The brilliant keynote speaker Niuscha Bassiri spoke on the important topics of “Why the Best Arbitrators Make Uncomfortable Decisions “ with the sage advice that “commerciality is a way of understanding the dispute not deciding it”. Great discussion today at the IBA Arbitration Committee panel on arbitration in the defence sector! The most important observations for me where: - As defence programmes grow in scale and urgency, dispute resolution is likely to become increasingly important. - Arbitration generally provides an effective mechanism where disputes arise, but classified materials may prove an obstacle or delay. - Value is created through delivery, not disputes. This is especially true for a sector that is build on long-term cooperation and under urgent delivery requirements. - The parties should put in place contractual and governance mechanisms that help them identify and manage issues before they escalate into formal disputes. These may include structured escalation procedures as an expedited means of resolution before recourse to arbitration. Thank you to the IBA Arbitration Committee, moderator Giedre Aukstuoliene, and fellow panellists Dirk Pulkowski, Dr. Markiyan Malskyy 🇺🇦 and Emilie Vingtoft Rye-Andersen for a great discussion and valuable insights.

The China Arbitration Summit 2026 and the China High-level Dialogue on Maritime and Commercial Arbitration, themed “International Arbitration in a Changing World”, convened in Beijing on Friday 18 September 2026, marking both the 60th anniversary of UNCITRAL and the 70th anniversary of CIETAC. 👏 In her opening remarks the Secretary of UNCITRAL Anna Joubin-Bret emphasized UNCITRAL’s longstanding work in developing harmonized, predictable legal frameworks, critical for facilitating trade and international dispute resolution. The event brought together judges, arbitrators, practitioners, academics and other stakeholders, with UNCITRAL #RCAP legal expert Adam Tang joining the first panel on principle-based innovations in arbitration practice to highlight UNCITRAL’s recent texts aimed at enhancing reliance on arbitral awards in electronic form and use of notices of arbitration in electronic form. Other issues discussed included the opportunities and challenges arising from the use of technology and artificial intelligence in arbitration, mediation and platform-based dispute resolution. UNCITRAL extends its appreciation to CIETAC and all supporters and participants for their contributions to this important dialogue, and in particular, their shared commitment to advancing transparent, predictable and harmonized approaches to international arbitration in a rapidly changing global environment. #UNCITRAL #UNCITRAL60 #CIETAC #arbitration #mediation #aiintrade

How can expert evidence make international arbitration more effective? During IBA week in Copenhagen, Plesner and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb) invite arbitration practitioners to discuss one of the most important issues in modern arbitration: expert witness evidence. Drawing on Ciarb’s report on expert witness evidence, the panel brings together arbitrators, counsel and expert witnesses to share practical perspectives on how experts can be appointed, managed and heard more effectively – supporting both sound decision-making and efficient proceedings. “In complex cross-border disputes, expert evidence is often pivotal. We look forward to discussing how tribunals, counsel and experts can work together to ensure that it is presented and tested effectively,” says Jimmy Skjold Hansen, Head of Arbitration at Plesner. Mrinalini Singh, director in Plesner’s Arbitration team, adds: “The event is an opportunity to exchange experiences across jurisdictions and professional perspectives on an issue that is central to many international proceedings.” We look forward to welcoming you to Plesner together with colleagues from our Arbitration team, including Rikke Kjeldsen, Jimmy Skjold Hansen and Mrinalini Singh. Join us on Wednesday, 7 October, from 15:00–17:00 at Plesner, Amerika Plads 37, Copenhagen. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gxUTybpD #IBA2026
