Don't miss these 4 supply chain lessons! Amazon VP Peter Larsen shares what three decades of building logistics infrastructure taught us 👇
Spent last week in Nashville with a few thousand supply chain people at CSCMP’s EDGE Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition™. My kind of crowd. Nobody asked me to explain what a cross-dock is. 😂 My talk covered a lot of ground, but it boils down to four things. 1. The speed of disruption has changed. The tools exist. AI, robotics, real-time data. But they only matter if your teams can act on them. If you're still making decisions on a weekly or monthly cycle, you're operating on a lag. 2. Fragmentation is the biggest tax on growth. Too many businesses are stitching together half a dozen disconnected providers to move a product from factory to front door. Separate contracts, separate data, zero visibility. 3. The highest-impact AI sits at the seams. Every AI project I showed targeted the handoffs between systems. Example: unscheduled pickups used to take 15-20 minutes of manual evaluation each. An AI agent now handles 100% of them instantly. 4. The talent gap is real. The skills that built this industry aren't going away, but they're no longer enough. The next generation needs to read a P&L and a system architecture diagram in the same meeting. The common thread across all four: the advantage comes from how fast your organization can use the technology.
