The grocery industry saw unit sales decline across several key categories in August, including produce, meat and seafood, according to Circana data prepared by 210 Analytics, LLC. Produce unit sales declined 6.7% during the month as the recent cyclospora outbreak caused people to think twice about buying salad, leafy greens and other items, Anne-Marie Roerink, principal of 210 Analytics, noted in an email. August was “a very tough month for grocery retailing,” wrote Roerink, and continues the trend of volume declines that have challenged the industry this year. https://lnkd.in/eCMUHWmb

Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage's board of directors has unanimously approved converting the company from a Delaware corporation to a Texas corporation. The specialty grocer cited its strong foothold of around two dozen stores in Texas and further plans to grow in the state as part of its reasoning for reincorporating. The company said in an SEC filing that the reincorporation won’t result in any changes in business, jobs, management, properties, office or store locations, or number of employees. The Natural Grocers name will also remain unchanged. https://lnkd.in/eKSKcqSs

Price Chopper Supermarkets-Market 32 announced this week that it is lowering prices on over 1,000 everyday items across its entire footprint. The grocer said its new lower prices touch nearly every category in the store, including fresh produce, pantry staples, dairy, frozen and household essentials. The new campaign pokes fun at how competitors all use the same standard neon yellow shelf tags to draw attention to discounted items with prices that “aren’t even that low.” The grocery chain will instead use tags colored “warm chartreuse” — a nearly identical yellow color — to showcase its newly lowered prices. https://lnkd.in/eCe6AQmW
