How the Humble American Diner Became the Stage for Brand Storytelling.... When we think of a diner, we think nostalgia. Neon lights, checkered floors, milkshakes, and the smell of fries drifting through the air. But today, brands aren’t just serving nostalgia, they’re serving story, theatre, and tangible brand experiences that make people stop, engage, and remember. Take Tesla’s Cybertruck “Tesla Diner & Drive-In.” It’s not just about the Superchargers. It’s about a retro-futuristic diner and drive-in theatre that transforms a functional stop into a multi-sensory moment. The diner becomes the stage where Tesla’s narrative, 'innovation meets Americana' comes alive. It’s tactile, it’s playful, and it’s a perfect example of a brand turning necessity into experience. Luxury and lifestyle brands are doing the same. CHANEL, SKIMS, and Jellycat have used pop-up diners to reinforce their brand DNA while giving consumers a physical, sensory connection. Think soft tactile displays, curated menus, neon signs echoing campaign aesthetics, and social moments built into every corner. The diner becomes a theatrical playground: consumers don’t just buy a product, they inhabit it. They sip, they snap, they share. So why does this work so well? It taps into the experience economy and Gen-Z’s appetite for moments that feel real, tangible, and shareable. A diner is both familiar and fantastical, it’s something people already know how to navigate, yet it can be transformed into a brand’s universe. Retro cues spark nostalgia, playful design encourages interaction, and the combination of taste, touch, and sight delivers multi-sensory engagement that static campaigns can’t match. They also offer collaboration potential; menus, merch, even limited-edition treats become vehicles for storytelling and co-creation. Social content writes itself: photo-booths, milkshake moments, and a drool inducing aesthetic, all make for irresistible feed fodder. And because diners are inherently communal, they naturally create micro-communities around the brand experience. For me, the power of the pop-up diner is that it’s more than just activation, it’s a physical manifesto of a brand’s values and aesthetics, inviting consumers to live the story, not just consume it. It’s theatre, tactility, and sensory engagement all rolled into one. Brands today aren’t just launching products, they’re designing worlds. So, are you still marketing products, or are you serving experiences with a side of storytelling? ________________ *Hi, I am Tim Nash. 🗺️ AirBnB Customer Journey Blueprint, a wonderful practical example of how to visualize the entire customer experience for 2 personas, across 8 touch points, with user policies, UI screens and all interactions with the customer service — all on one single page. AirBnB Customer Journey (Google Drive): https://lnkd.in/eKsTjrp4 Spotify Customer Journey (High-res): https://lnkd.in/eX3NBWbJ Now, unlike AirBnB, your product might not need a mapping against user policies. However, it might need other lanes that would be more relevant for your team. E.g. include relevant findings and recommendations from UX research. List key actions needed for next stage. Add relevant UX metrics and unsuccessful touchpoints. That last bit is often missing. Yet customer journeys are often non-linear, with unpredictable entry points, and integrations way beyond the final stage of a customer journey map. It’s in those moments when things leave a perfect path that a product’s UX is actually stress tested. So consider mapping unsuccessful touchpoints as well — failures, error messages, conflicts, incompatibilities, warnings, connectivity issues, eventual lock-outs and frequent log-outs, authentication issues, outages and urgent support inquiries. Even further than that: each team could be able to zoom into specific touch points and attach links to quotes, photos, videos, prototypes, design system docs and Figma files. Perhaps even highlight the desired future state. Technical challenges and pain points. Those unsuccessful states. Now, that would be a remarkable reference to use in the beginning of every design sprint. Such mappings are often overlooked, but they can be very impactful. Not only is it a very tangible way to visualize UX, but it’s also easy to understand, remember and relate to daily — potentially for all teams in the entire organization. And that's something only few artefacts can do. MBA schools get one thing right. Frameworks. Consultants swear by them. And here's what most CSMs miss: Your job? It's consulting in disguise. Every customer meeting. Every QBR. Every escalation. You're solving problems. But where do you start? That's where frameworks come in. Your secret weapon. Your north star. Your problem-solving toolkit. Let me break down the top 10 that'll transform your CS game in 2025: 1. MECE Not just for consultants anymore. Mutually Exclusive, Collectively Exhaustive. Perfect for segmenting your customers. Enterprise vs. Mid-market vs. SMB. No customer falls through the cracks. Every account has a home. 2. SWOT Your QBR's best friend. Analyze each account's: Strengths (feature adoption) Weaknesses (unused modules) Opportunities (upsell potential) Threats (competitor presence) Make every review strategic. 3. PESTLE Because your enterprise customers are complex. Political (stakeholder mapping) Economic (budget cycles) Social (team dynamics) Technical (integration needs) Legal (compliance requirements) Environmental (remote work impact) Miss one? Risk renewal. 4. 5 Whys Low product adoption? Ask why. Poor engagement? Ask why. High churn risk? Keep asking why. Root cause analysis saves accounts. 5. BCG Matrix Your portfolio management tool: Stars: Growth accounts Cash Cows: Stable enterprises Question Marks: New logos Dogs: Churn risks Prioritize your time accordingly. 6. Porter's Five Forces Not just for market analysis. Use it for customer health: User adoption strength Executive buy-in Alternative solutions Integration stickiness Budget competition The complete health score. 7. OKR Because "increase retention" isn't enough. Objective: 95% renewal rate Key Results: - 100% QBR completion - 90% feature adoption - 48hr response time 8. RACI Map your customer's journey: Who's Responsible for success? Who's Accountable for renewal? Who needs to be Consulted? Who stays Informed? Clear ownership = Clear success 9. SMART Goals Make every success plan count: Specific feature adoption targets Measurable usage metrics Achievable timelines Relevant to business goals Time-bound implementation 10. 3Cs Customer (their needs) Company (your solution) Competition (their alternatives) The triangle of customer retention. Here's what most CSMs miss: Frameworks aren't rigid rules. They're power tools. For discovering value. For driving adoption. For ensuring renewal. Master these. Apply them to your accounts. Watch your renewal rates soar. Because great CSMs? They're framework ninjas. ------------------ ▶️ Want to see more content like this and also connect with other CS & SaaS enthusiasts? “We can fix what's right in front of us while we figure out the bigger-picture unlocks. A simple agenda for utilities and regulators: 1️⃣ Run annual "rate-fit" checks on every customer using smart-meter data and notify when a cheaper plan exists. 2️⃣ Put the comparison on the bill (or customer portal) and make switching one click. 3️⃣ Offer bill protection for first-year switchers to kill the fear of trying. 4️⃣ Track and publish switching/savings metrics so this stays a kitchen-table win, not a press release.”

Voice AI is more than just plugging in an LLM. It's an orchestration challenge involving complex AI coordination across STT, TTS and LLMs, low-latency processing, and context & integration with external systems and tools. Let's start with the basics: ---- Real-time Transcription (STT) Low-latency transcription (<200ms) from providers like Deepgram ensures real-time responsiveness. ---- Voice Activity Detection (VAD) Essential for handling human interruptions smoothly, with tools such as WebRTC VAD or LiveKit Turn Detection ---- Language Model Integration (LLM) Select your reasoning engine carefully—GPT-4 for reliability, Claude for nuanced conversations, or Llama 3 for flexibility and open-source options. ---- Real-Time Text-to-Speech (TTS) Natural-sounding speech from providers like Eleven Labs, Cartesia or Play.ht enhances user experience. ---- Contextual Noise Filtering Implement custom noise-cancellation models to effectively isolate speech from real-world background noise (TV, traffic, family chatter). ---- Infrastructure & Scalability Deploy on infrastructure designed for low-latency, real-time scaling (WebSockets, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure from AWS/Azure/GCP). ---- Observability & Iterative Improvement Continuous improvement through monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry ensures stable and reliable voice agents. 📍You can assemble this stack yourself or streamline the entire process using integrated API-first platforms like Vapi. Check it out here ➡️https://bit.ly/4bOgYLh What do you think? How will voice AI tech stacks evolve from here?

  • Most people blow their Zoom first impression in the first 5 seconds without even realizing. Here are 4 common mistakes (and how to fix them): 1. Camera off = trust off ❌ Mistake: Keeping your camera off for most or all of the call. It makes you forgettable and signals that you don't care. ✅ The Fix: Even if you're camera-fatigued, turn it on at least for the first few seconds. After that, if you REALLY want to turn it off, say: “Hey, I've got a bit of Zoom fatigue, hope it's OK if I turn my camera off after we kick things off.” You're still signalling presence without ghosting the group. ____ 2. The Awkward opening ❌ Mistake: “Can you see me?” “Can you hear me?” “Oh, hi there…” Your first impression happens the moment you turn the camera on, not when you start talking. If the first thing people see is you fumbling with audio or fixing your hair, that's the impression they remember. ✅ The Fix: Fix your audio and technical issues before you “Join.” Open with a greeting and wave. But, better yet, come prepared with an anecdote: “Hey, morning. I just found the best breakfast taco in Austin. Ever had one?” It breaks the ice and gives the call momentum. ____ 3. Virtual backgrounds ❌ The Mistake: Using blur effects or virtual backgrounds Harvard research found that fake backgrounds distract people and make you less authentic. ✅ The Fix: Build your background with conversation starter cues: • Books you actually read • Art or something quirky that reflects your personality  • Hobbies or artifacts that invite connection  ____ 4. Bad camera angles ❌ The Mistake: Camera too close (under 3 feet) or looking off to the side  If you're watching people's faces but your own camera's off to the side or too low, you look checked out. ✅ The Fix: • Position your camera exactly 3 feet from your nose (yes, I literally measure this) • Angle your body towards the camera • Get your face as close to the camera lens as possible on screen • Research shows even partial eye contact through a screen builds oxytocin (the trust hormone). So, aim for 50% eye contact with the camera, 50% with their face It only takes a few tweaks to go from “just another Zoom tile” to someone who leaves a positive impression.

  • Imagine you're the CFO of a global company and someone pitches you a recruitment automation solution that will do the work of 400 recruiters and save you $30M per year. What would you do? When I was at LinkedIn's Talent Connect in October, I attended a workshop with John Vlastelica in which he shared that a global company had decided to implement a recruiting automation solution that would allow them to save $30M in costs by eliminating 400 recruiter positions. They also reduced the time to hire from 11 days down to 3. He shared that another company had used recruitment automation software to hire 300,000 workers with minimal human involvement - people only came into the process after background checks had been performed. They also maintained candidate quality and candidate experience while increasing the speed of hire. These kinds of case studies should not surprise anyone, although it is sobering to anyone in talent acquisition - the rapid advancement of AI and automation in recruiting is both exciting and concerning. On the one hand, the potential for efficiency gains, cost savings, and improved candidate experience is huge and undeniable, as these examples demonstrate. On the other hand, we must also be mindful of the human impact - thousands of recruiters are seeing their roles transformed or eliminated. As talent acquisition professionals, it's important to be thinking about how to adapt and provide value in this changing landscape. Some key questions to consider: -How can we upskill and position ourselves to work alongside AI rather than be replaced by it? -What are the uniquely human elements of recruiting that AI can't replicate, and how do we double down on those? -How might our roles evolve to focus more on passive talent sourcing, talent intelligence/advisory, strategic workforce planning, employer branding, candidate engagement, and employee experience? For companies considering or implementing recruitment automation, I believe it should be a thoughtful, strategic decision - not just a blind cost-cutting measure. Here are some key considerations: -What is the optimal mix of human and automated touchpoints to balance efficiency and candidate experience? -How will the balance of AI and human involvement vary based on the labor market dynamics for each role? Roles with talent scarcity may require more human touch to attract and engage candidates, while high-volume roles with ample supply lend themselves to greater automation. -How will we redeploy or reskill displaced recruiters? -How do we maintain our employer brand and human touch with increased automation? The future of recruiting is undoubtedly both human and machine - but the mix is up to each company and may vary by role/department. I'm curious to hear your thoughts - have you been impacted by AI/automation? How are you and/or your company preparing for the intersection of AI/automation and recruiting? #AI #Recruiting #FutureOfWork

Excellent tips here illustrating how a subtle change in tone can have a massive influence upon how your message is received. 1) Acknowledge Delays with Gratitude "Sorry for the late reply…" "Thank you for your patience." 2) Respond Thoughtfully, Not Reactively "This is wrong." "I see your point. Have you considered [trying alternative]?" "Thank you for sharing this—I appreciate your insights." 3) Use Subject Lines That Get to the Point "Update" "Project X: Status Update & Next Steps" 4) Set the Tone with Your First Line "Hey, quick question…" "Hi [Name], I appreciate you. I wanted to ask about…" 5) Show Appreciation, Not Acknowledgment "Noted." "Thank you for sharing this—I appreciate your insights." 6) Frame Feedback Positively "This isn’t good enough." "This is a great start. Let’s refine [specific area] further." 7) Lead with Confidence "Maybe you could take a look…" "We need [specific task] completed by [specific date]." 8) Clarify Priorities Instead of Overloading "We need to do this ASAP!" "Let’s prioritize [specific task] first to meet our deadline." 9) Make Requests Easy to Process "Can you take a look at this?" "Can you review this and share your feedback by [date]?" 10) Be Clear About Next Steps "Let’s figure it out later." "Next steps: I’ll handle X, and you confirm Y by [deadline]." 11) Follow Up with Purpose, Not Pressure "Just checking in again!" "I wanted to follow up on this. Do you need any additional details from me?" 12) Avoid Passive-Aggressive Language "As I mentioned before…" "Just bringing this back in case it got missed."

The future of sports broadcasting is volumetric. Combine this 3D tech with advances in object detection & tracking, and you’ll be able to tap a button to follow the ball or even a specific player. Add split screen, stats, and social for the full experience. Can't wait! Taking a step back: The likes of Intel True View (used in the 2024 Olympics) or the real OG (EyeVision from CMU Robotics) have been doing this forever — but it’s largely been relegated to Matrix-style bullet-time orbits cut into traditional 2D broadcasts. Now, with advances in radiance fields and immersive computing, we’re finally getting to a place where a 6dof representations are both high quality and streamable, along with powerful devices to view them on. Do you think consumers will like these type of active viewing experiences? Or do you most want passive, lean back viewing after a long day? Perhaps multimodal AI could curate and personalize on the fly -- giving us best of both worlds?! This is a SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 paper called Representing Long Volumetric Video with Temporal Gaussian Hierarchy (as always, link in comments below) #ai #3d #cgi #xr
