Randy Rodríguez

Randy Rodríguez (elbow) threw a scoreless inning in the Arizona Fall League on Monday.

Rodríguez allowed one hit but struck out two in his inning of work. Perhaps more importantly, he sat 96.5 mph, which was up from 95 mph in his first outing, and he touched 98 mph on the radar gun. The 27-year-old has yet to allow a run in his AFL action and could be the favorite for saves in San Francisco heading into the 2027 season.

SF Relief Pitcher #73

Randy Rodríguez (elbow) threw a scoreless inning in the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday.

Rodríguez last pitched on August 19th 2025, before experiencing soreness in his elbow and ultimately undergoing Tommy John surgery. He spent this entire year rehabbing and is now back on the mound in the Arizona Fall League. His four-seamer touched 96 mph and sat 95 mph in this outing, which is down from the 97.4 mph that he averaged in 2025, but it’s just nice to see him healthy and pitching. He’ll likely get a few more AFL outings, but there is a chance he could work himself into the 9th inning conversation for the Giants in 2027 with a good spring training.
Blade Tidwell

SF Relief Pitcher #46

Blade Tidwell will undergo surgery to repair his UCL in October.

That operation will likely cost Tidwell his 2027 season, although that hasn’t been officially announced yet. There were some solid moments for the 25-year-old in 2026, and assuming everything goes well, he should compete for a rotation spot in 2028.
Carson Seymour

SF Starting Pitcher #77

Carson Seymour opened with a scoreless inning before being lifted Sunday against the Dodgers.

Seymour, who got moved from the rotation to the bullpen in Triple-A in June, ended up with a 4.55 ERA and a 23/16 K/BB in 31 2/3 innings over 25 appearances in the majors this year. It’s surprising that he hasn’t been able to miss more bats with his 95-99 mph fastball, cutter and slider, and he might be in some danger of landing on the waiver wire with the Giants needing to make room for a bunch of injured players returning from the 60-day IL.
Osleivis Basabe

SF 3rd Baseman #1

Osleivis Basabe (hamstring) remains out of action for Sunday’s season finale against the Dodgers.

Basabe has been shelved since Monday due to tightness in his left hamstring. It’s possible that he could be available off the bench on Sunday. Marcelo Mayer will start at the hot corner for the Giants and will bat cleanup against Jack Dreyer and a host of Dodgers’ relievers.
Matt Wilkinson

SF Starting Pitcher

Matt Wilkinson allowed one run in three innings and got a no-decision against the Dodgers on Saturday.

Wilkinson threw five scoreless innings against the Dodgers in his last start. If we combine the starts, he’s allowed one run in eight innings against the Dodgers. Wilkinson had a 3.58 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in his first 27 2/3 innings at the MLB level. It’s a small sample size and his 4.97 xFIP suggests we need to see more before buying in anyway.
Seth Lonsway

SF Starting Pitcher #86

Giants recalled LHP Seth Lonsway from Triple-A Sacramento.

Lonsway returns to San Francisco’s bullpen for their final two games of the season. The 27-year-old lefty allowed three runs over two innings against the Diamondbacks in his major-league debut last month.
Yunior Marte

SF Relief Pitcher #43

Giants optioned RHP Yunior Marte to Triple-A Sacramento.

Marte wasn’t going to pitch again after allowing two runs over five innings against the Dodgers on Friday. The 31-year-old compiled a respectable 4.44 ERA across 24 1/3 innings for the Giants over the last month.
Osleivis Basabe

SF 3rd Baseman #1

Osleivis Basabe (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Dodgers.

Basabe is sitting out his straight game with left hamstring tightness. It’ll be Shay Whitcomb taking over at the hot corner in his place.
Yunior Marte

SF Starting Pitcher

Yunior Marte allowed two runs in five innings and picked up a loss Friday to the Dodgers.

Marte pitched well, but two solo homers was more than enough offense for Tarik Skubal. The 23-year-old deserves credit for pitching significantly better against Los Angeles after he was lit up by the Dodgers for six runs in his previous attempt. Assuming he stays in the organization, Marte will get a chance to earn a spot for San Francisco during the spring training season.
