Task/s: Adding EZB ID, ZDB ID, website URL, Print ISSN, and Online ISSN from EZB dataset where they are missing in Wikidata.
Code:
Code to generate dataset for matching
Function details: This bot will update:
- 29,249 items for academic/scientific journals where the EZB ID is missing in Wikidata,
- 29,115 items for academic/scientific journals where the ZDB ID is missing in Wikidata,
- 2,216 items for academic/scientific journals where the website URL is missing in Wikidata,
- 141 items for academic/scientific journals where the electronic ISSN is missing in Wikidata, and
- 129 items for academic/scientific journals where the print ISSN is missing in Wikidata.
The above dataset is based on EZB and a SPARQL query from Wikidata for academic journals and scientific journals.
Matching entities between Wikidata and EZB was determined by matching based on the EZB ID or the journal title and at least one of the following: the ZDB ID, the journal URL, a print ISSN or an electronic ISSN.
Test edits have been done under the EZBIDsBots account. The tests were done in two batches, one on 8 October and one on 12 October. After the first batch, I noticed that there were some journals that had name changes, resulting in journals with overlapping ISSNs, but different names and thus different entries in both Wikidata and EZB (for example: Eclogae Geologicae Helvetiae and Swiss Journal of Geosciences).
I self-reverted using my main account, reran the code using stricter matching based on the journal title, and then ran the second test batch. I double-checked all edits.
Suggestions are welcome.

- @WebRunner95: the matching and added id's in your recent test edits looks good to me. However, it's recommended now that multiple edits on one item like this should be combined into a single update - I assume pywikibot supports that, but I'm not entirely sure how it is done. Rather than 4 updates to add 2 ids and references, it should be 1 update. Also I think it would be better to use stated in (P248) Electronic Journals Library (Q1327244) rather than reference URL (P854) to a generic URL. If there's a specific URL that could be linked for the metadata on one journal then that would be ok with reference URL (P854), but if you are just using a generic reference then stated in (P248) seems more appropriate.

- Thank you, @ArthurPSmith! I updated the bot script above accordingly, and ran/double-checked another 20 test edits today.
- I was also wondering how to run multiple edits in a single update in pywikibot. The `editEntity()` function from the documentation helped me there, as well as an example script. WebRunner95 (talk) 04:02, 15 October 2026 (UTC)reply
