Partial functions/currying

Tracked in Phabricator:
Task T386422

    • CMassaro (WMF) said There shouldn't be any issue from the backend's perspective. It sounds like a UI problem.
  2. Support Support PLEASE having to nest n-ary apply is killing me. YoshiRulz (talk) 14:29, 15 July 2026 (UTC)reply
As of August, this is experimentally supported by way of a new Type. See WF:Catalogue/Functional operations#Anonymous functions.

N-argument apply/reduce/map

For implementations and testers, show the associated function in Recent Changes (etc)

Feature summary: See a link to the associated function when there is a link to an implementation or a test, especially in Recent Changes and Special:ListObjectsByType)

Return string values in a container that supports Copy and (optionally) makes non-display characters visible

Provide details of result validation

Feature summary: The “Details” for a Test case should include (as a minimum) the Implementation used by the Function specified for the “result validation”.

Improve access by functions to Persistent object labels (and other keys)

Support Support as proposer GrounderUK (talk) 09:09, 30 March 2025 (UTC)reply
I think fetch labels of Persistent object (Z40897) and return Wikifunctions Object (Z40102) have this covered? YoshiRulz (talk) 12:39, 22 September 2026 (UTC)reply
The original ticket remains open because calls like this fail. There is an additional deficiency for pre-defined objects: For pre-defined objects, Z828/fetch Persistent object fetches from disk and so omits any user-made changes, e.g. aliases or non-en content. I think we should probably include Provide a custom component for choosing, and a custom display for viewing, Z96 instances under this heading too, because fetch Persistent object (Z828) itself can’t be used as an embedded function and users should not be expected to know a persistent object’s identifier (Z2K1/id). GrounderUK (talk) 17:47, 22 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Z40102 succeeds at fetching Z6, though it's affected by phab:T410501 all the same. YoshiRulz (talk) 04:11, 23 September 2026 (UTC)reply

Structured data/documentation

Weak Support Support since I suspect the workaround of {{Function documentation}}/{{Type documentation}}, in conjunction with Wikidata, will be sufficient. IIRC there are systems which parse the parameters in a Wikitext template call, should anyone want it machine-readable. YoshiRulz (talk) 07:55, 13 July 2026 (UTC)reply

Visually distinguish Wikidata items from properties

This call shows the problem: it echoes a Z6091, a Z6001, a Z6094, and a Z6004. They appear identical because the same icon is used, and their English labels are the same. A more realistic example is a composition like Z31134, with some items and some properties mixed in with a wall of text.

I wrote some hacky CSS as a workaround. YoshiRulz (talk) 14:12, 15 July 2026 (UTC)reply

Support Support …more generally, though, failing to distinguish function calls from other types of object is distinctly unhelpful. I mention it here because a Z6001 is distinguished from Z6091 by being a function call, which should remain obvious in any collapsed form. GrounderUK (talk) 18:07, 22 September 2026 (UTC)reply

Show more than 5 Implementations/Tests by default

Support Support as proposer. 10/20/50 would make more sense than 5/10/50. YoshiRulz (talk) 01:22, 3 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Support Support bump to 10 for now IMO --99of9 (talk) 04:30, 3 August 2026 (UTC)reply
