One of the central challenges facing mental health in Africa is bridging the gap between theoretical advances in neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, and the social sciences, and meaningful, contextually grounded implementation that actually improves people’s lives. Join us for an interactive webinar titled "Reframing Mental Health in Africa - Knowledge, Power, and Context." 🗓️ 29 October 2026 at 10:00 EDT / 16:00 CAT The aim of the webinar is to interrogate whose knowledge shapes mental health practice and how colonial histories, inequality, and culture influence current systems. Our diverse panel of experts — including clinicians, early- and late-career researchers, traditional healers, and individuals with lived experience — will establish a shared conceptual foundation and identify gaps between theory and lived realities. 🔗 Register: https://lnkd.in/gsPiBuDe

  • This Suicide Prevention Month, we’re sharing practical guidance to help raise awareness and support conversations about suicide and mental health. Swipe through for information on suicide prevalence, signs to look out for, and what you can do if you’re concerned about someone. These resources were developed by the AGMHI's Advocacy & Policy Working Group (co-led by Dr Siki Gwanya-Mdletye & Dr. Lucinda Manda-Taylor) to help make important information accessible to our communities. Knowing the signs, starting a conversation, and connecting someone to support can make a difference.

  • We reached capacity at yesterday's AGMHI webinar! Thank you to everyone who joined us for “Co-design of Mental Health Interventions in African Contexts.” Facilitated by Michelle Durham, MD, MPH, DFAPA, DFAACAP, Co-Chair of the AGMHI Training & Education Working Group, alongside JohnBosco Chukwuorji Zenah Nantumbwe., and Annabella Osei-Tutu (nee Opare-Henaku), the session introduced participants to the principles, methods, and practical applications of co-design (or participatory design) as an approach to developing feasible, contextually relevant, and impactful mental health interventions. The discussion highlighted the knowledge and skills needed to collaboratively develop interventions that are responsive to the needs, priorities, and lived realities of specific communities. A sincere thank you to our speakers, facilitator, and everyone who participated and contributed to such an engaging discussion. We hope you’ll continue the conversation and connect with the broader AGMHI community by joining us as a member: https://lnkd.in/dYxnHi9D Missed the live webinar? • Last call! Don't miss your chance to join us for #AGMHI2026 this November. 👇🏿👇🏿👇🏿

You asked, and we listened! After hearing numerous requests from colleagues, we’ve extended registration for #AGMHI2026 to 15 September 2026. That means there’s still time to join us in Mombasa, Kenya, from 9–11 November for the 9th Annual AGMHI Conference. This year, we're coming together around the theme “Youth Mental Health in Africa & the Diaspora” to explore mental health across the life course - from perinatal mental health and childhood through adolescence and young adulthood - and through a systems-oriented understanding that includes caregivers, families, communities, and the systems that support them. Across three days, we'll share research, exchange ideas, build connections, and explore innovative and culturally grounded approaches to improving youth mental health across Africa and the diaspora. We’re delighted to make a little more room for our community to join us, and we hope to see you in Mombasa! 🗓️ New registration deadline: 15 September 2026 📍 Mombasa, Kenya | 9-11 November 2026 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dD769kja
