  • NYJ Quarterback #8
Rodgers was seen clutching his left calf after throwing an interception in practice. He continued to play, struggling to complete passes for the remainder of the practice session. Rodgers missed time in OTAs due to a right calf issue. His health will be paramount to the Jets, who will surely exercise extreme caution with their 39-year-old QB.
  • IND Quarterback
That was quick. Richardson had an uneven preseason performance against the Bills last week, completing seven of 12 passes for 67 yards and an ugly interception. He rushed twice for seven yards. Richardson was introspective when told he had been named the Week 1 starter. “As of right now, I think I’m ready,” the rookie said. “But who am I to say if I’m ready or not?” Apparently Steichen and the Colts are ready to commit to the rookie, who profiles as a great later-round fantasy pick for drafters who don’t get an elite quarterback option. Richardson’s rushing prowess and downfield throwing ability could make him something of a fantasy cheat code in 2023.
  • NYJ Running Back #20
Hall’s official return comes 24 hours after the Jets signed Dalvin Cook to a one-year deal. Hall’s recovery from a 2022 ACL injury has been on schedule and the team has hinted he may be ready for the season opener. Hall, who last year had 681 total yards in seven games before his knee injury, could split backfield duties with Cook to start the season before taking over as New York’s lead back in the season’s second half. Rostering Hall this season may require some patience for fantasy managers. He’s being taken as the 14th running back off the draft board.
  • NE Tight End #88
The hope, per Rapoport, is that Gesicki is OK for the Patriots’ season opener. Gesicki was hurt during a tackling drill on Monday and was seen grabbing at his shoulder as he exited toward the team’s locker room. New England is widely expected to deploy two tight end sets this season, so the Gesicki injury could force offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien to shift course ahead of Week 1. Hunter Henry would be a little more interesting for fantasy purposes if Gesicki is sidelined for the season opener.
  • MIN Tight End #87
There have been whispers about Hockenson staging a so-called hold in over a contract dispute as he prepares to play the 2023 season under the fifth-year option of his rookie deal. That turns out not to be the case. Hockenson said his ear infection — which held him out of practice for two weeks — is “starting to get cleared up.” He added that the infection had affected his equilibrium. Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said Hockenson would be eased into the Vikings offense in the coming weeks. Unless his ear issue persists into early September, Hockenson should be one of the first three tight ends off fantasy drafts boards.
  • NYJ Running Back #4
Although only a one-year deal, the $8.6 million makes Cook the ninth highest paid running back considering average annual value. Cook joins a retooled Jets roster that also brought in quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason, giving him exactly what he was searching for in free agency - to be paid what he feels he’s worth and to join a Super Bowl contender. The Jets now lock up their stopgap and insurance policy while they wait for the return of the electric second-year back Breece Hall.
  • FA Running Back #21
It’s worth “up to” $6 million. The former Cowboy rushed for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns last season while averaging a career-worst 3.8 yards per carry. The former All-Pro has steadily declined over the last few seasons and averaged an underwhelming 2.0 YPC in his final four games in 2022. Zeke’s signing could prove annoying for Rhamondre Stevenson drafters as he’ll challenge Stevenson for touches on the goal line and in short-yardage situations. Elliott’s best days are behind him, but he’s a touchdown vulture who could provide the occasional top-24 fantasy week. A potentially light workload could make him difficult to trust on a week-to-week basis.
  • BAL Running Back #27
Dobbins was activated from the active/PUP list and returned to practice the same day. The veteran running back now enters a contract year with the team after supposedly “holding in” during the first few weeks of camp in hopes of a new deal but had little leverage to get a deal done. Dobbins rushed for 92-520-2 last season and has averaged 5.9 YPC for his career. It wouldn’t be surprising to see his ADP rise after weeks of a discount directly related to his circumstances. He has high-end RB2 upside playing in one of the league’s best offenses.
  • DAL Guard #70
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Martin will now earn a little over $18 million in each of the final two years of his contract. It’s not the new contract Martin was hoping for, but it’s still a substantial pay raise for the Cowboys’ six-time All-Pro guard. Martin is expected to rejoin the team shortly and should be good to go for Week 1.
  • NE Tight End #88
According to Kyed, Gesicki was injured during a tackling drill and was seen grabbing under his shoulder pads as he walked off the field. Gesicki is in his first year with the Patriots and has come on strong in recent days after a slow start to camp. He’s expected to serve in a big-slot role in the Patriots’ offense, with Hunter Henry operating more as the in-line tight end. We’ll likely know more about Gesicki’s injury in the coming days.
