Yankees ace Gerrit Cole has no soreness and no issues after exiting start with cramping in calf

Cole can’t really explain what caused the cramping in his right calf that forced him out of his last start.

Clay Holmes

NYY Relief Pitcher #35

Clay Holmes took a loss and blew a save against the Rangers on Tuesday while allowing four runs in 1/3 of an inning.

Holmes gave up a walk-off grand slam to Wyatt Langford to take the loss and blow his 11th save of the season. That’s not a typo. The 31-year-old started the season as dominant as any reliever in baseball, but there’s been quite a few missteps since that hot outing. The Yankees are going to give the right-hander plenty of leads, but there’s a little more risk in his profile than you’d like. You all know this, of course. You’ve been dealing with it for 130-plus games.
Carlos Rodon

NYY Starting Pitcher #55

Carlos Rodón struck out 11 over six innings of one-run baseball, but didn’t factor into the decision against the Rangers on Tuesday.

Both starters were excellent in this one, with Andrew Heaney blanking the Rangers over five scoreless as well. Rodón gave up his only run on a Josh Jung homer in the fourth, but that was the only hit he allowed in the game while walking two. The 31-year-old has his first double-digit strikeout game since July 22, and lowered his ERA to 4.19 to go with a 183/51 K/BB across 160 1/3 innings. The ERA is a little higher than you’d like, but tough to complain too much about Rodón’s 2024 campaign.
Luis Gil

NYY Starting Pitcher #81

Luis Gil (back) will start on Friday against the Cubs.

Gil will make his return to New York’s starting rotation later this week after making just one minor league rehab start. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him to work too deep into the contest, but he’s still capable of piling up the punch outs.
Austin Wells

NYY Catcher #28

Austin Wells is day-to-day with a hand contusion.

The positive news here is that X-rays came back negative. Wells is out of the lineup on Tuesday night after being hit by a pitch during Monday’s contest against the Rangers. The 25-year-old backstop is unlikely to miss too much additional time. It’ll be Jose Trevino handling the catching duties in his absence.
Clarke Schmidt

NYY Starting Pitcher #36

Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Clarke Schmidt (lat) will start on Saturday against the Cubs.

Schmidt, who has been on the shelf since late May recovering from a right lat strain, will make his return to New York’s pitching mix this weekend against the Cubs.
Gerrit Cole

NYY Starting Pitcher #45

Gerrit Cole (calf) told reporters he expects to make his next start on Sunday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

There was some concern initially when Cole left Monday’s start against the Rangers, but he’s feeling better after dealing with some cramping in his right calf. It doesn’t sound like a concern for fantasy managers moving forward.
Jon Berti

NYY Third Baseman #19

Jon Berti (calf) will move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre beginning Tuesday.

Berti has not performed well in his 10 games since his rehab assignment began with a .179 average and .609 OPS. The most important thing for the 34-year-old is getting reps, however, and he’ll likely get a handful more games in the minors before having a chance to be a part of the New York bench before the 2024 season comes to an end. Because Berti was on the roster before August 31, he can be a part of the playoff group.
Gleyber Torres

NYY Second Baseman #25

Gleyber Torres picked up three hits and two RBI in the Yankees’ 8-4 takedown of the Rangers on Monday.

More power would be nice, but Torres is batting .290 with a .366 OBP in 123 plate appearances since the beginning of August. That’s why he’s turned into the Yankees’ leadoff man of late, adding a little to his fantasy value.
Gerrit Cole

NYY Starting Pitcher #45

The Yankees said Gerrit Cole’s injury was just a cramp in his right calf.

Cole departed while warming up for his seventh inning of work tonight. He had pitched six innings and allowed one run before exiting the game against the Rangers.
Gerrit Cole

NYY Starting Pitcher #45

Gerrit Cole left Monday’s game in the seventh inning with an apparent leg injury.

Cole was warming up for the bottom of the seventh when he apparently felt something in his calf. He was able to walk off without assistance, so hopefully, this won’t prove to be anything serios. He had pitched six innings of one-run ball and was in line for the victory when he was replaced by Luke Weaver.
