AWS Student Builder Group Leader: Apply Now

The official AWS Developers page featured my journey as an AWS Student Builder Group Leader, and honestly, seeing my story shared like this feels pretty special. Especially because the story behind it is literally me thinking “I don’t think I should apply” and somehow ending up here. 😅 Being an SBGL has been a lot of figuring things out as I go, building a community at my university, learning, meeting people, taking up responsibilities I wasn't always sure I was ready for, and slowly getting more comfortable with stepping outside my comfort zone. A huge thank you to the AWS Developers team for featuring my story and giving me the opportunity to share it with a wider community. And a special thank you to Sophia Pava, my manager, for all the guidance and support throughout this journey, and to the entire team for everything you do behind the scenes. 📚 What I Learned From Becoming an AWS Campus Leader You don’t need to be an expert before you start leading. A certification with an expiration date says something a permanent one does not. Fields that move quickly, cloud platforms, security frameworks, AI tools, often certify on a renewal cycle instead of a one-time credential. That is not a downside. You’re a Technical Lead. You want to earn more next year. Easy. Learn something new. So you open LinkedIn. Someone says AI. YouTube says cloud. A colleague says cybersecurity. I realized recently that I've been doing something for free for that I absolutely love doing… Mentoring people! 😂 Throughout my entire career, people have reached out asking for help with breaking into tech, Cloud, DevOps, certifications, interviews, career moves and sometimes just... "What the hell am I supposed to do next?" And if I could help, I'd usually hop on a call. Totally unstructured. Just, "Yeah, let's talk." Over the years, I've watched people I've helped pass certifications, land jobs, transition into tech, and advance in their careers. So I've decided to finally put some structure around something I've already been doing. I'm officially opening up 1:1 Tech Career Strategy and Certification Prep sessions. These are for people trying to figure out things like: Which certification actually makes sense for me? How do I break into Cloud or DevOps? I have certifications. Why am I still not getting interviews? What projects should I be building? What skills am I missing? How do I advance from where I am now? What's the most realistic path from where I am to where I want to be? Or simply... "Iman, I have no idea what I'm doing. Help." 😂 I've personally been there. I've navigated this industry myself, participated in programs and opportunities with Google, AWS, and Epic Games, and earned certifications across AWS, Google Cloud, and CompTIA. But a lot of what I know has also come from helping other people navigate this industry. And that's probably one of the biggest things I've learned: There isn't one perfect roadmap. I'm not here to tell you to copy my path. The whole point is figuring out yours. Sometimes you don't need another course, another certification or another YouTube video. Sometimes you need someone to take the time to sit down with you, look at where you are, understand where you're trying to go and help you figure out what actually makes sense for YOU. Proud to share that TKR College of Engineering has officially authorized the AWS Student Brand Campus Leader (SBCL) Program on campus. As part of this initiative, our student leader will drive AWS awareness, student engagement, peer-to-peer outreach, presentations, workshops, and promotional activities over the coming weeks.
