Watching a textbook shallow waterflood fill up in real time. This is a coarsening-upward Jackson sandstone bar. Blue pins are injectors; green pins are producers. The reservoir had been depleted below bubble point, leaving significant free gas in the upper, higher-permeability portion of the bar. At CCU 11.5-21 we drilled barefoot into the Jackson with crude oil and a power swivel specifically to minimize formation damage. What we found was gas relative permeability—the well filled overnight with 175 psi gas over only about 10 feet of oil. Now we're injecting water and watching the three-phase system evolve as oil and gas compete for pore space during fillup. The oil-rate response is beginning to show. The part I find particularly exciting is the surveillance. With Amplified Industries, we can watch individual producing wells continuously rather than waiting for periodic well tests to tell us what the reservoir did.
