Exclusive: Israel sent troops to Azerbaijan during Iran war as part of secret network

A new report claims Israel operated a network of secret military and intelligence positions across the Middle East during its war with Iran, including sites in Azerbaijan near Iran’s northern border.

According to sources cited in the report, Israeli special forces, intelligence personnel and support units were deployed to several locations outside Israel to assist military operations, gather intelligence and provide emergency support during the conflict.

The alleged deployments would have given Israel unprecedented access around Iran’s borders, allowing it to monitor military activity and support operations deep inside Iranian territory.

Alleged Operations in Azerbaijan

The report states that Israeli personnel were stationed at multiple sites in southern Azerbaijan, close to the Iranian border.

According to the sources, the locations were used for intelligence gathering, surveillance missions and drone-related operations.

The positions reportedly offered Israeli forces a valuable observation point overlooking northern Iran, including areas near the city of Tabriz.

Several dozen personnel were allegedly involved, including members of Israel’s special operations units, rescue teams and Mossad intelligence officers.

Azerbaijan has strongly denied the claims.

In a statement, the Azerbaijani embassy in Washington rejected allegations that its territory was used for military operations against another country.

Wider Regional Network

The report also claims Israel maintained additional covert positions elsewhere in the region.

Sources alleged that facilities were established in Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Somaliland during the conflict.

Some of these sites were reportedly intended to support logistics, intelligence collection and potential rescue missions involving Israeli personnel.

The alleged network would have effectively placed Israeli assets around Iran’s northern, western and southern approaches.

According to the report, these forward positions helped support repeated military operations throughout the conflict.

Somaliland’s Reported Role

One of the more notable claims involves Somaliland, the self-declared republic in the Horn of Africa.

Sources cited in the report said the territory provided a location where Israeli aircraft could potentially stop during long-range operations.

The report notes that Israel formally recognised Somaliland in recent years and that the United Arab Emirates maintains a significant presence in the region.

No official confirmation has been provided regarding the allegations.

Long-Standing Israel-Azerbaijan Relationship

The report highlights the close relationship between Israel and Azerbaijan, which has developed through energy, defence and security cooperation.

Azerbaijan supplies a significant portion of Israel’s oil imports, while Israel has become one of Azerbaijan’s most important defence suppliers.

Military cooperation between the two countries has expanded over the years, particularly in areas involving advanced technology and security systems.

Analysts have long viewed Azerbaijan as strategically important due to its proximity to Iran.

Intelligence Operations and Security Concerns

According to the report, Israeli planners viewed Azerbaijan as an important location for monitoring Iranian military activity and gathering intelligence.

Sources claimed preparations for some operations began before the outbreak of the wider conflict.

The report also references previous incidents involving alleged Iranian plots in Azerbaijan and cooperation between Azerbaijani and Israeli security agencies.
