People will need to be clear about what they expect double-clicking on such files are expected to do. Are you wanting the extension to run Python code to read the file, get the data, and then somehow print it out in a read-only tab? What are we to do about NumPy if you don't have it installed in your selected environment?

Someone will need to come up with a rather thorough proposal on what they expect before anyone can contemplate contributing a PR to implement this.

Hopefully, the people having .npy files are expected to have numpy installed, or if not, they can be prompted to install it, or the Python extension of vscode can do an automatic installation.

We are actually trying to move away from doing installations for users due to the difficulty of getting everything right for all scenarios.
