According to Vercel, they identified a security incident that involved unauthorized access to certain internal Vercel systems. They say the incident originated from a small, third-party AI tool whose Google Workspace OAuth app was the subject of a broader compromise, potentially affecting its hundreds of users across many organizations. What are the IOCs? So far, the only indicator of compromise is this OAuth App: 110671459871-30f1spbu0hptbs60cb4vsmv79i7bbvqj.apps[.]googleusercontent[.]com Google Workspace Administrators and Google Account owners should check for usage of this app immediately. Who did it? A threat actor claiming to be ShinyHunters posted on a hacking forum that they had breached Vercel and were selling access to company data. However, BleepingComputer says "threat actors linked to recent attacks attributed to the ShinyHunters extortion gang have denied to BleepingComputer that they are involved in this incident." What should you do? Although Vercel says they've reached out to the customers who were impacted, we recommend all Vercel customers take action. Here are the best practices Vercel has recommended: 1️⃣ Review the activity log for your account and environments for suspicious activity (including usage of the app listed above in the IOC section). You can review activity logs in the dashboard or via the CLI. 2️⃣ Review and rotate environment variables. Environment variables marked as "sensitive" in Vercel are stored in a manner that prevents them from being read, and we currently do not have evidence that those values were accessed. However, if any of your environment variables contain secrets (API keys, tokens, database credentials, signing keys) that were not marked as sensitive, those values should be treated as potentially exposed and rotated as a priority. 3️⃣ Take advantage of the sensitive environment variables feature, so that secret values are protected from being read in the future. As a bonus, make sure you have MFA enabled on your GitHub accounts that are associated with your Vercel account. (And really, any GitHub accounts should be using MFA.) I'll be supporting the software delivery streams to accelerate the roll out of new services for our customers. A huge part of the decision was the opportunity to work in a leadership team with Adrian Skehill Corina Stroescu Marc Behan Michael McGrath Justino Fernando and Susan Woods. They truly appreciate the human endeavor involved in software delivery and have a deep understanding of the journey our organisation is on as we continue to deliver important infrastructure for Ireland and beyond. Today I'm revisiting the session from John Ellis on trustable software and diving into the white paper mentioned during his talk. https://lnkd.in/dbkT2Utc It's hard to disagree with the this statement in the executive summary: "software use remains largely an act of faith, built upon a stack of unverified assumptions, as most computer code is written informally and evaluated based on whether or not it works." It's going to be a busy year.....or two

I was struck by how Ireland’s open source community is attracting talent from all over the world. For such a small country, this was super impressive and, while we could chalk it up to the beautiful culture and lush landscapes of Ireland, I think it's more than that. Supporting each other, pooling knowledge, lifting the whole community… it’s in their DNA. And it got me thinking about Germany, a country so unlike Ireland in many ways but one that can learn from it, too. As an economic powerhouse, we sometimes forget how much being “big” can slow us down. Opening up, sharing, collaborating — not just within companies but across the whole industry and beyond — takes a different mindset. The tools and software don't accomplish this, but a shift in culture, readiness, and courage to let others in. For me, open source has always been about more than code. It’s about creating a diverse (!) community that can actually move things forward together, where knowledge, experience, and ideas flow freely. Seeing that in Dublin made me realize that a national mindset shift is necessary (and possible!) if Germany and the EU want to embrace the same energy. (And I am so proud that Open Logistics Foundation is exactly on that way, transforming the logistics industry.) It’s about asking ourselves: 🔵 How can we open up our structures? 🔵 How can we make collaboration across borders and sectors part of our DNA? 🔵 How can we not just build solutions, but build the communities that will make them thrive? Being big doesn’t have to mean being slow. Thank you Clare Dillon & Michael Meagher from Open Ireland Network for having us in Dublin and the impressions, I could take home.

Through aerial photography, I built a collection of imagery which was then used to create a large 3D art piece with the local community and schools. This work is now on display in the Tralee Library and I'm delighted to deliver a talk there this Tuesday on the whole project.
