This month marks an important milestone: the Celeste IOD-1 satellite has successfully transmitted its first navigation signal, marking its commissioning in orbit. In this video, Miguel Manuel Romay Merino, GMV’s Satellite Navigation Systems General Manager, shares his perspective on this key milestone and its relevance for the future of secure satellite navigation in Europe. Celeste is ESA’s strategic mission to explore how a low Earth orbit (LEO) navigation layer can complement Galileo, enhancing the accuracy, resilience, and security of positioning, navigation, and timing services across Europe. As one of the prime contractors for Celeste, GMV is responsible for the end-to-end mission of Celeste IOD-1 and five additional demonstrator satellites, part of a wider constellation of eleven satellites. We’re on the right track, and proud of the #GMVteam making it happen. #Celeste #ESANavigation Video: European Space Agency - ESA

  • Last week, GMV hosted at our Lisbon offices the Annual Review Meeting – Year 3 of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) Rapid Mapping. We welcome representatives from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and partners from across the consortium led by e-GEOS, part of Leonardo Space. 🏢 The event combined technical sessions with a visit to our facilities, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase GMV’s capabilities in space, particularly in Earth Observation. Over two days, participants reviewed the achievements of the past year, discussed operational performance and key improvements, and aligned future priorities, upcoming activities and service evolution through continued innovation. 🛰️ The Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping Service continues to play a crucial role in #EmergencyManagement, supporting authorities with timely and reliable geospatial information, especially in high-demand scenarios such as wildfires, floods and other crisis situations. The service is implemented by a consortium of leading EO industry partners in Europe: e-GEOS (lead), Telespazio Ibérica, GAF AG, Ithaca Srl, ICube-SERTIT, CLS (Collecte Localisation Satellites), IABG, Planetek Hellas and GMV. 🤝 We thank the European Commission’s JRC and all consortium partners for their participation, valuable contributions and constructive discussions. #Copernicus #RapidMapping #EarthObservation

Next week, GMV will be in Toulouse at the NATO Space COE Conference as proud sponsors, right at the center of the conversation shaping how space is used in defense operations. This year’s focus "From Awareness to Action" is exactly where we operate: turning strategy into systems that work in real conditions. At our booth, we’ll be showing how that translates into practice. From satellite navigation to space operations, space situational awareness, and complex systems integration, capabilities designed to perform, integrate, and deliver when it counts. We’re there to connect, to share, and to push things forward alongside the wider ecosystem. 📍See you in Toulouse! https://ow.ly/E2Vn50YMnZl #NATOSpaceCOE #SpaceConference2026

  • Can Poland become a leading space player in Europe within the next decade? In an interview with Rzeczpospolita, Paweł Wojtkiewicz, Director of GMV's Aerospace sector in Poland, shares a clear perspective on how the country’s space ecosystem is evolving, and where the real opportunities lie. The sector is moving beyond niche contributions towards deeper integration in European programmes, with growing capabilities across mission support, data processing, and satellite-based systems. Growth is increasingly driven by downstream applications: Earth observation, satellite communications and PNT, where demand for data-driven services continues to expand across defense, agriculture and crisis management. In this landscape, software, data exploitation and AI are becoming critical enablers. At the same time, sustained investment and strong alignment with ESA and EU flagship programmes (Copernicus, Galileo, IRIS²) remain key to scaling capabilities and securing a role in major supply chains. The direction is clear: developing sovereign orbital infrastructure while strengthening expertise in ground segment, operations and end-to-end solutions. 🔗 Read the full interview: https://lnkd.in/gnGA_AMi #SpaceIndustry #SpaceTech #EarthObservation #PNT
