വടക്കൻ ഇസ്രായേലിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ നഗരവും ഇസ്രായേലിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ മൂന്നാമത്തെ നഗരവുമാണ് ഹൈഫ(ഹീബ്രു: חֵיפָה, Hebrew IPA: [χeiˈfä], Ḥefa; അറബി: حيفا Ḥayfā[2]). ഇവിടത്തെ ജനസംഖ്യ 265,000 -ൽ കൂടുതൽ ആണ്. നഗരപ്രാന്തങ്ങളിലുള്ള ക്രയോട്ട്,ടിററ്റ് കാർമെൽ, ഡാലിയട്ട് അൽ-കാർമൽ, നെഷർ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലായി 300,000 ജനങ്ങളും താമസിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഈ പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ ചേർത്ത് ഏകദേശം 600,000 ജനങ്ങൾ താമസിക്കുന്ന ഇവിടം ഹൈഫ മെട്രോപൊളിറ്റൻ ഏരിയയുടെ പ്രധാനഭാഗം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നു[1][3]. ഇവിടെ താമസിക്കുന്നവരിൽ 90% ജനങ്ങളും ജൂതന്മാരാണ്. ഇതിൽ കാൽഭാഗം ജനങ്ങളും മുൻ സോവിയറ്റ് യൂനിയനിൽ നിന്ന് കുടിയേറിപ്പാർത്തവരായതു കൊണ്ടു തന്നെ ഇവരിൽ ജൂതന്മാരും, സ്ലാവ് ജനവിഭാഗവും ഇവരിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. ബാക്കിയുള്ള 10% അറബ് വംശജരാണ്. ഇവരിൽ ബഹുഭൂഗിഭാഗവും ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ മതത്തിൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു[4]. യുനെസ്കോയുടെ ലോക പൈതൃക പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെട്ട ബഹായ് വേൾഡ് സെന്റർ ഇവിടെയാണ് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്[5][6].
പ്രകൃതി ദൃശ്യങ്ങളാലും നിറങ്ങളാലും സുഗന്ധദ്രവ്യങ്ങളാലും രുചികളാലും കാഴ്ചകളാലും സ്ഥലങ്ങളാലും നിബിഡമായ ഈ നഗരം മെഡിറ്ററേനിയൻ സമുദ്രതീരത്തെ ഈ അത്ഭുത നഗരി എന്നും വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. [7]
