Our relationship with Allah should never be TRANSACTIONAL.

It is true that hardship has a way of drawing us closer to Him. When I couldn't get into university during my first gap year, I would cry through the entire four rak'ahs of Dhuhr sunnah — in ruku', in sujood, and while standing — in the mosque. My duas were raw, intense, and sincere. But when that worry lifted, so did the intensity. The tears dried. And I found myself returning to a more comfortable relationship with Allah—one that only heats up again when something goes wrong. That is the transactional trap. We come to Allah with our needs, and when they are met, we quietly step back. Yet Allah deserves to be remembered in ease just as much as in hardship—glorified in gratitude just as He is called upon in desperation. Dhikr, love, and heartfelt salah should not be saved for our worst times.

May Allah make us among those who remember Him constantly—in the fullness of ease and in the depths of hardship—not because of what we need from Him, but because of who He is.

Whenever someone is touched by hardship, they cry out to Us, whether lying on their side, sitting, or standing. But when We relieve their hardship, they return to their old ways as if they had never cried to Us to remove any hardship! This is how the misdeeds of the transgressors have been made appealing to them. (12)

Sometimes in life, we may find ourselves pushed into the darkest of moments, where it seems like there is no way out, and nowhere to turn except to Allah. It is during these dark moments that our deepest sense of servitude and desperation for our Rabb is expressed in the most profound ways. It was when Yunus AS found himself immersed in darkness, in the belly of the whale and in the depths of the sea, that he uttered one of the greatest invocations 'There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except You. Glory be to You! I have certainly done wrong.'

Just as pressure gives birth to diamonds, the pressures of hardship can forge an unbreakable bond of ultimate servitude to Allah. May Allah bring the

Allah, exalted is He, explains that there are some people that call upon Allah only when they are in difficult times, and when Allah removes their affliction they go on with their lives as if Allah never did anything for them and as if they never had a relationship with Allah. A person who in their vulnerability calls upon Allah SWT to remove that harm, once Allah removes that harm it's as if you never made dua, it's as if you never had a relationship with Allah, it's as if you never called upon him. so Allah is emphasizing that this is the problem we have! this is where Allah see's our failure. That we don't call upon him unless we want something in this world. This weakness in the beli

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful, Before departing for our trip to the Lake District in Northern England, I had paused on this ayah. Whenever, I feel particularly saddened I always ask Allah to send me an ayah which comforts my heart. However, my heart stopped at this ayah, (Surah Yunus ayah 12). Then we commenced our five and half hour journey by road. We thought we had everything figured out and we have driven around bends and cliffs before. So mentally both myself and my husband were prepared. It was just approaching Maghreb and we were nearing our cottage, unable to find it. We were driving for over 50 miles in remoteness and the roads and steepness

Sometimes we only turn to Allah when we're wounded, desperate, helpless.. but once ease returns, how quickly we forget the One who rescued us.. this verse shook me a little.. because isn’t it true that we’re so sincere in du'as when we’re desperate—crying, begging, completely dependent—but once relief comes, we resume our heedlessness? how many times have we cried in sujood, only to return to heedlessness the moment ease embraced us? is this love, or is it just need? but love is remembering Him not only in sorrow, but also in stillness.. in joy.. in peace.. ya Rabbi, forgive our forgetful hearts.. help us love You not only in pain, but in peace too.. May we remember Him in ev

As humans we are constantly being tried and tested. Even blessings and all goodness Allah plans for us, generously gives us, and wants for us is a means of testing our hearts and actions. When many of us fall or are going through a hardship that seems impossible to end and even if belief in Allah is absent, many will resort to calling out to Him. Even in Hollywood this is often portrayed 'if you’re really up there..' or those who who have never admitted to Allah being real they’ll say 'oh my God' sincerely not just because many say omg as a passing of words. Like in times of desperation you’ll hear stories of people saying they even called out to Allah because of the devestating t

Allaah literally says he (man) walks away ( مَرَّ ) as though he had never called upon Allaah for any harm that had touched him. As if all those dua’s and all that humility and connection with Allaah disappeared as soon as Allaah alleviated the harm. We are not supposed to be closer to Allaah because of calamity and continue whatever of the wrong we used to do before; once He removes that calamity. This weak nature of our connection with Allaah comes out when good times and bad times hit us. -And Allaah knows best. Inspired by one of the examples given in the Detailed Explanation of Surah Al - 'Asr of Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan (May Allah protect him). May Allaah not make us from
