🔥 Call for Proposals: ‘Wildfires’. 🗓️ Closing 2 June 2026. We’re calling for ideas for innovative services that use space technology or data to advance wildfire management. Wildfires have forever played an integral role in regulating our natural environment; shaping landscapes and sustaining ecosystems. However, in recent years, the frequency and intensity of wildfires in Europe’s Southern Mediterranean region, as well as parts of Central and Eastern Europe, have notably increased. Data from the European Forest Fires Information System (EFFIS) suggests that the average area affected by fires in 2025 in European Union member states was more than double the average from across 2006-2024. With support from European fire and rescue services, civil protection agencies, and forest management authorities, the focus for this opportunity has been designated as Wildfire Response, targeting solutions advancing early detection of wildfires, near-real-time fire evolution monitoring, fire behaviour simulation and prediction. Space can support wildfire response in a number of ways, examples include: 🔸 Satellite Earth observation for mapping and monitoring of active fires, burn scars, vegetative health, risk factors and vulnerable infrastructure. 🔸 Satellite positioning to guide aerial platforms (drones and aircraft) for fire monitoring and suppression, geo-referencing of data collected from aerial platforms and in-situ sensors. 🔸 Satellite communications to provide connectivity to distributed in-situ sensors across a region, as well as communication links for aerial platforms. 🚌 Call for Proposals: ‘Rural Transportation Networks’. 📅 Deadline extended until 29 April 2026. Rural transportation networks play a crucial role in connecting remote areas to urban centres, facilitating the movement of people and goods and supporting economic development. However, these networks often face challenges such as limited infrastructure, low population density and geographical obstacles. Space-enabled services and applications have the potential to transform these networks. Here are just a few examples of how space can help: ▪️ Satellite Earth Observation (SatEO) – from monitoring road wear and tear and detecting road surface deformation to analysing traffic patterns and congestion. ▪️ Satellite Communications (Satcom) - allow for seamless communication in rural areas and essential connectivity in emergencies. ▪️ Satellite Navigation - contributes to enhanced accuracy and reliability of route planning, accurate data for autonomous vehicles and accurate location data for emergency response. The market potential for enhancing rural transportation networks in Europe is substantial, driven by the need for improved connectivity, economic development, and sustainable solutions. 🚰 WEBINAR: ‘Digitalisation of the Water Sector’. 🗓️ Wednesday, 20 May 2026, 10:00 BST/11:00 CEST. 🎙️ Guest speaker: Megan Gerryts, Water Innovation Specialist, World Economic Forum. Today, the world faces a defining challenge: how to manage too much, too little or too polluted water in the face of growing populations, climate change and strained infrastructure. Among these pressures, water sanitation has emerged as one the most urgent global concerns. The impacts of climate change, rising demand and the depletion of natural resources call for a paradigm shift in how water service providers, water management authorities, regions, cities and citizens manage and protect water. New solutions are required to: 🔹 prevent and detect non-revenue losses across the entire supply chain 🔹 improve wastewater treatment performance 🔹 raise awareness 🔹 locate leakages 🔹 repair sanitation and distribution infrastructure Join us on 20 May as we introduce our upcoming Call for Proposals to access European Space Agency - ESA funding for innovative services and applications that use space technology or data to address water sustainability and water resilience challenges.
