Hello world! It’s me, Stephen Sciortino from Database Tycoon LLC, and I just finished building something I've been wanting to put together for a while. It’s a data-stack scaffold project that connects open-source tools. It provides one CLI to manage the installation of everything else you need, and it’s designed to run completely locally. It's called Tycoon Local Stack. The stack is built on tools like: dbt Labs Core, DuckDB, dltHub, Rill Data, Dagster Labs, and Recce. They are all wired together into what I'd call a "megatron" of the modern data stack. Give it a try and report any bugs you find or any wishlist items you have! The best way to do that is to open an issue on the repo (in the comments below). #OpenSource #ModernDataStack #LocalStack #DatabaseTycoon

You might know Chloé Anderson as our (mostly) non-technical partnerships manager. She led a workshop at BetaNYC's UnSchool of Data using NYC Open Data, MotherDuck, and Hex, proving it just takes being technically-curious to get started. #VibeCoding #Hex #MotherDuck #ModernDataStack #DatabaseTycoon

Databricks and Snowflake have been quietly acquiring Postgres hosting companies. Stephen Sciortino, CEO of Database Tycoon LLC, thinks teams starting from scratch will gravitate toward single-vendor platforms, but for teams with Postgres already integrated into their stack, the migration conversation is a much harder sell. Is this a decision your team has had to make yet? Full interview with David Yaffe, CEO of Estuary, in the comments. #TycoonTalks #Snowflake #Databricks #DataEngineering #Postgres #ModernDataStack

AI isn't a magic wand. 🪄 In our most recent Tycoon Talks, Sarah Shafey, AI and Cloud Digital Executive from Google says data is what makes or breaks every AI program. Before anything gets built, the unglamorous data work is the groundwork that determines whether AI can actually deliver on its sparkly promises. Full episode in the comments. #TycoonTalks #DatabaseTycoon #Google #AI

A lot of the work we do here at Database Tycoon LLC is wrangling data that lives all over the place. The biggest pain point we see is that people can’t trust their data enough to derive any insights from it. We see the same issues pop up across so many teams we decided to write an article about it! Here's are 3 signs your team is ready for a metrics layer, and what Lightdash can do about it. Blog 🔗 in the comments #ModernDataStack #DataEngineering #DataPipelines #metricslayer

30 people 🤝 4 NYC neighborhoods. Last week, Chloé Anderson ran a workshop with BetaNYC. Each group asked questions about their neighborhoods and created Hex dashboards to tell the story. We learned about housing development vs. tree coverage, air quality, and socioeconomic shifts traced through census data. Big thanks to BetaNYC for having Chloe. 🫶 #BetaNYC #DataForGood #OpenData #DatabaseTycoon

AI told Dori Wilson (Recce) that her feedback to a coworker was "too aggressive" and "needed softening up". She recognized the gender bias and pushed back. “What would you say if I were a man?” The advice shifted... Completely. 🫠 So let's run the experiment ourselves. Next time AI softens your edges or adds qualifiers you didn't ask for, switch the gender and see what happens. Drop what you find in the comments. We're curious. 👇 Aaand that’s a wrap for Women's History Month. #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenInData #AIBias
