Statement from our President & CEO Chris Swonger: "Distilled Spirits Council of the United States and its members mourn the passing of Bennett Glazer, executive vice chairman of Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits. Bennett was a respected leader whose vision helped build a modern beverage alcohol marketplace and strengthen partnerships across the industry. Throughout his career, Bennett was known for his integrity, leadership and dedication to the people and communities he served. His leadership will leave a lasting impact not only at Southern Glazer, but across the industry as a whole. Our thoughts are with the Glazer family, the Southern Glazer’s team, and all who had the privilege of working with and learning from Bennett."
We are deeply saddened by the passing of our Executive Vice Chairman Bennett Glazer, on Monday, April 20, 2026. Bennett was a visionary leader whose passion, integrity, and unwavering commitment helped shape our company into the organization it is today. He had the foresight and championed the transformational combination of Glazer’s with Southern Wine, which a decade ago brought together our two families to create what is now Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. His legacy will endure through the generations of leadership he helped inspire, including members of the Glazer family who continue to play an important role in our business. Bennett is survived by his wife, Marion, his daughter, Paige and his son, Sam Glazer, a valued next-generation leader of our Southern Glazer’s team. In addition to the lasting impact Bennett made on our company and our culture, he was a respected voice in the industry and a generous supporter of the communities we serve. On behalf of our entire organization, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Glazer family and all who knew and loved him.

It was a whirlwind few days in Brussels advocating for a permanent return to zero-for-zero tariffs on spirits between the U.S. and the EU. Fair, reciprocal, and predictable U.S.-EU trade in spirits has led to significant growth on both sides of the Atlantic, supporting jobs across the supply chain, from farmers and distillers to restaurants, bars, and retail stores. Spirits trade is different. We are an industry of distinctive products, such as Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey from the U.S., Cognac from France, and Irish Whiskey from Ireland, which can only be made in their respective countries. The highlight was a joint DISCUS/spiritsEUROPE meeting with U.S. Ambassador to the EU, Andrew Puzder, to underscore our shared commitment to securing a permanent return to zero-for-zero tariffs on U.S.-EU spirits trade. Thanks to spiritsEUROPE for their strong partnership, hospitality, and continued leadership in Brussels. #DYK that in many states across the U.S., spirits-based #RTDs are taxed higher than RTDs made with malt and wine? This unfair tax disparity forces consumers to pay more for their favorite products and prevents local producers from entering the booming category!
