That’s a wrap on an incredible few days in Florence! 🇮🇹🌍 The final day of the Overture Member Summit has officially come to a close. We spent the morning diving deep into the future of GeoAI, exploring how spatial knowledge graphs are making Overture data AI-ready, and learning how to visualize millions of data points right in the browser. We also took a moment to celebrate our community at the "La Dolce Geo" lunch, connecting the brilliant women who are helping shape the future of this foundation. 💡 The Big Takeaway As Will Mortenson, EdD noted, the real magic of this summit wasn't just in the presentations -- it was in the "honest and frank" discussions. We didn’t shy away from the hard questions about data quality and process; instead, we leaned into them to ensure we’re building a standard, shared way to reference the world. A massive "grazie mille" to all our members who joined us in Italy. Your passion and authentic contributions are what drive this foundation forward. Let’s take this momentum back to our respective corners of the globe and keep building the open map data together! 🗺️ 📸 We’ve captured the energy, the intense breakout sessions, and the networking in the foyer. Our geospatial video intelligence hackathon in St. Louis this weekend (April 25-26) has confirmed a judging panel that brings operational credibility to technical evaluation. These are the practitioners and academics who have deployed and researched geospatial technologies in production environments where performance matters: ✅ Jeffrey Harrison and Thomas Boggess from US ArmySean Batir from Amazon Web Services (AWS)Sean Gorman from Zephr.xyz (on behalf of Overture Maps Foundation) ✅ Gizelle C. from University of Missouri-Saint LouisTrung Tran, PhD, GISP from Fayetteville State UniversitySimon Bailey from T-KartorVikram Lakhwara from StakehouseAndrew McDowell from HIIJessica Anabor from Space Generation Advisory CouncilChaz Mason from Assured Consulting SolutionsMark Munsell from GeoSTL ✅ Michael Jones from TwelveLabs Participants will receive detailed evaluation rubrics specifying criteria for detection accuracy, technical implementation, operational utility, and mission alignment. The rubric ensures solutions are assessed on whether they could be deployed in actual workflows, not just whether they look impressive in demos. Registration closes April 24. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Event details and application: https://luma.com/9fqslqq9 ⬅️ This is your last chance to build geospatial intelligence infrastructure alongside developers from NGA contractors, defense companies, and regional universities. The systems you build could inform actual production deployments in environments where video understanding directly impacts operational effectiveness. See you in St. Louis 🗺️

That’s a wrap on an incredible Overture Member Summit! 🌍✨ Coming out of these sessions, I am incredibly energized by the continued passion and dedication of our members. What stood out most to me wasn't just the shared belief in the mission, but the honest and frank discussions we had about how to continuously improve our processes. We didn't shy away from the hard questions; instead, we leaned into how we can evolve and build better, together. A major focus of our time was spent looking ahead at the impacts of AI. It is clearer than ever that Overture is uniquely positioned to support the rapid evolution of GeoAI. We were also treated to some absolutely amazing briefs covering: Real-World Impact: Innovative ways Overture data is actively being used today. Quality & Community: Deep dives into our user base and critical data quality considerations. The Power of Community: The invaluable, ongoing contributions from our members that drive this entire project forward. If there is one overarching takeaway from this summit, it’s that we need to keep spreading our core message. Through greater collaboration, organizations can: Save valuable time and resources. Significantly increase overall data quality. Implement a framework that enables everyone to start referencing the world in a standard, shared way. Thank you to everyone who participated, presented, and brought their authentic ideas to the table. Let’s keep building the open map data of the future together! 🚀🗺️ #OvertureMaps #GeoAI #OpenData #Collaboration #MappingTheFuture #GIS #DataQuality

That’s a wrap on Day 1 of the Overture Member Summit! 🗺️ It was a powerhouse day focused on one goal: making high-quality, interoperable map data a reality. From the "State of Overture" keynote to deep dives into the schema, the momentum is undeniable. Key takeaways: Industry Leaders in Action: Leaders from Esri, Uber, and Microsoft shared how they are already operationalizing Overture’s POI and address data. Global Impact: From seismic risk analysis to building national address systems, we saw how open data is solving critical real-world problems. The Tech Stack: Deep dives into schema standardization and data integration emphasized why a unified "map language" is the foundation for everything we do. AI + Human Intelligence: A vital look at the balance between AI-driven data and the essential role of human-contributed data. Great sessions, even better networking, and a clear path forward for the ecosystem. Bring on Day 2! #OvertureMaps #OpenData #GERS #OvertureSummit

  • If Day 1 was about the "Why," Day 2 of the Overture Member Summit was all about the "How." We went under the hood today, exploring the sophisticated tech stack that will power the next generation of maps. 💡 Today’s Highlights: - The 2026 Roadmap: Amy Rose and Albi Wiedersberg laid out the Engineering and Product priorities for the next two years. The future of Overture is looking faster, more integrated, and more accessible. - The Era of Map Agents: From Agentic Coding sessions to using AI agents for Places Data Evaluation, it’s clear that AI is no longer just a buzzword -- it’s actively helping us build and validate data at scale. - Precision & Intelligence: We explored the "Self-Healing" potential of Places datasets and looked at the new Places+Imagery Task Force, aimed at bringing even higher fidelity to our vector map tiles. - In-Browser Innovation: Seeing DuckDB + H3 used for fast entity conflation right in the browser was a massive reminder of how much the geospatial developer experience is evolving. The energy in the breakout sessions and the Michelangelo room proved that this community isn't just dreaming about better maps -- we're shipping them 🚢! #OvertureMaps #OvertureSummit #GERS

I got to demo what we're doing at Fused at the Overture Members today! We put together a Slack bot that's directly accessible in the Overture Maps Foundation Slack where people can directly ask questions to the Overture docs & summary of the latest releases I jumped into doing a live demo rather than having slides, both on screen and by letting people talk to our bot in Slack. More stressful, but I think it makes the message land better! If you're at the Overture summit and want to learn more, hit me up, let's talk! (And if you're not, I'm always up for a call!)

Modern maps cannot be static. Places open, close, change sentiment, and shift relevance constantly. A single data point can be useful, but it is rarely trustworthy on its own. The real value emerges when signals are observed over time and in aggregate. Greg Nieuwenhuis's session at Overture Maps Foundation Member Summit this week explores how historical and regular signals help create a self-healing Places dataset. Weekly signal updates allow the system to continually validate place confidence, improve accuracy, and prevent failures like navigating to a business that closed last week. If you are in Italy this week and would like to attend, the session takes place on Wednesday April 22, 2026 from 12:20 - 12:40 CEST. Learn more here: https://buff.ly/0yzP5ve #Signals #Places #OMF
