Summary

Reporting to Analytical Laboratory Manger, the Chemist conducts instrumental analytical testing, generates reports, authorizes results, operates/maintains/calibrates equipment and provides technical support to customers, manufacturing, quality, product development, and sales in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs routine sample preparation, operates analytical equipment, analyzes testing data, and interprets test results in the Analytical Laboratory.
  • Organizes test results in a report format for presentation, as required by customers.
  • Assists in the maintenance and verifications/calibrations of equipment.
  • Partners with the Quality group to assist in the identification and solution of customer complaints.
  • Maintains an active role in housekeeping and safety.
  • Interacts and provides technical support with Technology, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Sales & Marketing departments on testing.
  • Participates in periodic sales meetings and teleconferences and attends various seminars and training courses to ensure proficiency in current procedures and technology.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations on analytic solutions and equipment to improve the performance of the Analytical Laboratory and other departments.
  • Reviews applicable procedures, work instructions, and test methods to comply with the ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
  • Develops analytical techniques and methods to meet the needs and requirements of the customer.
  • Contributes to and participates in the development and implementation of procedures and work instructions to satisfy corporate compliance to defined management system.
  • Committed to following all applicable quality system documents and operating within the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 international standard.
  • Performs duties safely and in compliance with documentation outlined in the Safety, Health & Environmental system and the Analytical Laboratory Safety, Health & Environmental/Chemical Hygiene Plan, and Radiation Safety Program.
  • Performs other duties and assignments as directed by laboratory supervisor.

Recommended Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, or other related science is required.
  • Experience in a laboratory environment required, minimum 1-3 years of experience preferred.
  • Extensive background in the operation and interpretation of analytical equipment and methods used in both chemical and thermal analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage time efficiently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in testing and deliverables.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word programs with good technical writing skills.
