“We’ve always had to make long trips just for appointments and return the same day, because we couldn’t afford to stay overnight. Having a place to go took a huge weight off our shoulders. It was also very important for our son. He arrived tired and even felt sick from the trip, but when we got here, he completely changed. He got excited, started exploring the place, playing… he walked in as if it were his home.” - Ian’s family, a patient at Lilo México Airbnb.org and Lilo México are partnering to provide free temporary stays for eligible families whose children are undergoing specialized medical treatment for congenital heart defects in Mexico City, Mexico. So families can focus on healing, not housing. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eAAmzXMv

Airbnb.org is an independent nonprofit that leverages the Airbnb platform and community to provide free, emergency housing in times of crisis. Drawing on his 25 years of work in humanitarian aid and his organization's recent experience in responding to the Los Angeles fires, Airbnb.org Executive Director Christoph Gorder outlines how technology companies can intentionally apply their resources to provide sustained structural capacity for humanitarian response. "The nonprofit world is extraordinarily good at identifying needs, while the technology world is extraordinarily good at building scalable solutions. When those capabilities are combined intentionally, the results can be transformative." “After the storm wrecked our house, we had to escape in the middle of the night in the thigh high flash flood. We didn't have any place to stay. We were hopping from friend's couch to friend's couch. Hotel rooms are very tight. And so having an Airbnb where we could feel a little bit more comfortable in all the chaos was such a blessing.” - Jessica, Airbnb.org beneficiary during the Kona Low storms in Hawaii, evacuated with her husband and two kids. After a disaster, a home is more than just four walls and a roof. It’s a space to recover with dignity. Thanks to Aloha United Way for their partnership in helping provide free, emergency housing to people after the Kona Storms in Hawaii.

Every day, Airbnb.org connects people displaced by emergencies with free stays in Airbnb listings around the world. I was excited to join Airbnb.org two years ago because of the opportunity to scale this impact. Last year, we mobilized to respond to a record number of responses. Thanks to Dr. Rob Harter for the great conversation about how we make it happen. https://lnkd.in/gnaPnTKH

Every year in Italy, around 1 million patients are forced to leave their home communities to receive appropriate medical care. Travel costs can range from €200 to €5,000 - an overwhelming burden in moments of vulnerability. We’re expanding Airbnb.org’s Medical Stays program to Italy to provide free temporary housing for families traveling for medical care. Starting this year, Airbnb.org is partnering with ten Italian nonprofit organizations to help patients and their families stay together during oncological and other treatments. Thank you A Casa Lontani Da Casa, AIL - Associazione Italiana contro Leucemie, linfomi e mieloma, AISLA APS, CasAmica ODV, Casa Ronald McDonald Italia, Cooperativa Sociale Intrecci, Impresa Sociale Consorzio Girasole,Mission Bambini, Peter Pan ODV, and VIDAS - Assistenza ai malati inguaribili for the partnership. Through Airbnb.org, these families can now book free temporary housing near hospitals right on the Airbnb platform. They have one less thing to worry about: where to stay.

“Having the house through Airbnb.org has been essential for me, because I have the peace of mind and security of knowing that I’ll finish my training. I’ll be able to go home and rest.” As the Winter Paralympic Games take place in Milan, we’re reminded of Vanderson Chaves, a two-time Paralympic fencer. In 2024, he evacuated after massive floods devastated his home in Rio de Sul, Brazil. Airbnb.org provided Vanderson with free, emergency housing in a wheelchair-accessible home near his training center, which helped him pursue his 2024 Paralympic dream. He successfully competed in the 2024 Paralympic Games. Learn more: airbnb.org/vanderson
