When you’re in the zone, taking a break is the last thing on your mind. However, you may end up with some serious health issues down the line, and you may not be as productive as you would if you followed a strict work/break schedule.
wnr is a simple, Electron-based application that was designed to help you remember when breaks are needed. It allows you to configure work/rest intervals that are then enforced, which will have many positive health effects in the long run.
Work and rest on a predefined schedule
When launching the app for the first time, you will need to configure your first timer. You can set its name, the work and rest time, as well as how many times it should be looped.
When you’re done, press Enter and let the timer run either on your desktop or in the system tray. When it is time to take a break, a notification will be displayed on your desktop. If you prefer, the rest time can be enforced, preventing you from using your PC until it is over.
Simple and unobtrusive work/rest timer
There aren’t too many other features to speak of, other than the fact that you can configure default settings for every new timer that is added. You can also enable or disable sound notifications.
wnr is very unobtrusive, and it can be brought up or hidden with a simple hotkey (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+W). However, it would have been great if this shortcut were customizable.
Nothing groundbreaking, but it gets the job done
When it comes down to it, wnr isn’t too impressive as far as timer apps go, but it works well and is very easy to configure. After setting a timer, you can just let the application run in the background, and it won’t get in your way until it reminds you, or even forces you to take a break.

What's new
in wnr 1.32.0:
- Fixed multiple bugs: countdown in mini mode could freeze or fail to finish in the last minute, wrong colors for simple countdown and stopwatch in mini mode, extra dialog on first work period in fullscreen, and "You've been pausing long" still showing when "Notify when you are not using wnr" is off. Thanks @Reunion31 for testing.
- Added "Simple countdown settings" collapse panel to customise default countdown duration, independent of predefined tasks.
- Finer long break options: added "Every 2 times" and +1 min / +2 min.
- Statistics: new "Recap" tab that records completed tasks (title, note, etc.), grouped by date.
