Experts Who Reviewed Recommended Diets
Who Reviews the Diets?
A panel of leading health experts, including dietitians, academic researchers and doctors specializing in diabetes, heart health and weight loss, reviews detailed assessments prepared by the Health Team at U.S. News of each diet. The experts evaluated each diet across 21 categories focused on health conditions and lifestyle needs.
How We Choose Our Diet Panelists
- Expertise
- Independence
- Diverse viewpoints
- Representation
Expertise
Our panelists are medical doctors, registered dietitian nutritionists, nutritional epidemiologists and researchers who are leaders in their field. They have received degrees and accreditations universally recognized as establishing their expertise in that field (such as MD, RDN, PhD). Many are published book authors, leads of peer-reviewed scientific studies and educators at respected institutions.
Independence
We ensure that the panelists who evaluate the Expert-Recommended Diets are independent, without financial ties, bias or affiliation with commercial diet programs that would influence their evaluation of the diets.
Diverse Viewpoints
In addition, we ensure that we represent a variety of scientifically-established viewpoints: from nutritionists and doctors who recognize the value of plant-based diets to diabetes experts who study the benefits of certain low-carb diets to researchers who study the connections between what we eat and the development of various chronic diseases.
Representation
There's no one diet that’s best for everyone. For that reason, we ensure that our experts understand the importance of cultural and ethnic influences when it comes to what and how we eat, as well as family and budgetary constraints that can be part of meal planning.
