The Event

The time has come for people all around the world to be exposed to the passion and talent Greek people share for social media. There's now the opportunity for bloggers, podcasters and vidcasters from all five continents to get together and discuss what they love the most, on a small beautiful Greek island.

The Camp will run from June 2 to 3, 2007 at the breathtaking Ios Palace Hotel - scheduled during the weekend for your convenience - and you can book your tickets for the Hellenic Seaways fast ferry online The trip from Piraeus to Ios takes approximately three hours and tickets for a one-way trip start from €47.

Here is a suggestion with one of the many ways you can schedule your trip:

  • June 2 - Departure from Piraeus at 07:20 a.m. Arrival to Ios at 10:20 a.m.
  • June 4 - Departure from Ios at 12:20 p.m. Arrival to Piraeus at 3:30 p.m.

Each Greek Blogger Camp attendee will need to pay a €30 registration fee for the event. In addition, accommodation, daily breakfast and WiFi Internet access at the Ios Palace Hotel is available to attendees for a special rate of €80 a night. Be sure to book soon as space is limited!

Greek Blogger Camp is bringing together amazingly talented people with one goal in heart and mind. Passion for innovation, creativity and social media. You'll get the chance to meet and talk with Wordpress creator, Matt Mullenweg and the independent web designer, developer and consultant, Steve Smith of the famous orderedlist.com.

    Wordpress Creator

    Matt is an entrepreneur living in San Francisco, California. He is the founding developer of the popular open-source blogging software WordPress and writes a popular blog Photo Matt.

    After quitting his job at CNET, he has devoted the majority of his time to developing a number of open source projects and is a frequent speaker at conferences. In late 2005, he founded Automattic, the business behind WordPress.com and Akismet.

  • Steve Smith
    Steve Smith
    Independent web designer, developer, consultant, author

    Steve is an independent designer, developer, consultant, author, and speaker living in South Bend, Indiana, USA. After working at the University of Notre Dame as senior web developer, he turned his personal website, OrderedList.com, into his full-time business at the beginning of 2007. He also works as a member of Sidebar Creative, a design and development agency, and is a member of the Web Standards Project Education Task Force.

    Steve is the mand behind the Wordpress Tiger Admin, the WordPress FeedBurner plugin and the Download Counter pepper.

    Panos has been bringing customers and brands together through interactive experiences for the last decade. Since 2005 he has been leading the Interactive Services department of OgilvyOne Worldwide - Athens, while also acting as an "Executive Creative Director", guiding the creative work produced for websites, and web campaigns.

    The work he has creatively directed has won numerous Ermis Web Awards at Greece's annual advertising awards from 1999 to 2006. He was recently responsible for Toyota Hellas' web 2.0 promotion of Toyota Auris through the "Auris Blog".

    Panos maintains a blog at www.panos.gr and was the founder of one of the most historic James Bond fan websites, Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang!

    Panayiotis Vryonis
    Greek podfather, Social media in politics

    Panayiotis is one of the first greek bloggers and the first greek podcaster. He has worked for years as a software developer for yellownetroad and OgilvyOne worldwide.

    He's an open source software evangelist, and a founding member of the Hellenic Linux Users Group.

    His current job is social media consultant at PASOK (the Greek Socialist Party).

  • George Papadakis

    George is the Head Of Operations at Phaistos Networks since 1997 and an avid Web 2.0 fan.

    Having supervised the implementation of a plethora of web services (Pathfinder.gr, Adman.gr, Trinity.gr among others), he is knowledgeable enough in terms of how to incorporate up-to-date techniques while creating usable and accessible web applications.

    He spearheaded the design and development of Pathfinder Blogs (PBlogs), another Pathfinder.gr service, which is packed with a great host of powerful and innovative features.

    He is an occasional blogger, while being always on the lookout for extraterrestrial life.

  • Nektarios Sylligardakis

    Drupal Evangelist

    Nektarios received a B.Sc and M.Sc. in Electronics. Despite all this, he is keen on web 2.0.

    He is a web consultant, specializing in Drupal, the leading CMS tool.

    He is founding member of the Greek Drupal community mydrupal.gr. He currently works at Entelia Informatics as a Drupal Expert.

    Microsoft, Web Platform Strategy Advisor

    Panos works as a Platform Strategy Advisor in Microsoft Hellas, evangelizing new products, technologies and services focused on building and experiencing the next generation Web.

    Having significant experience in the implementation and deployment of complex projects in Finance, Retail and Telcos, Panos is currently implementing Microsoft's web strategy in Greece ensuring that developers, designers, content providers, software and services vendors, hosters and end users will have the right tools and technologies in their hands.

The Location

Greek Blogger Camp will take place at the fabulous Ios Palace hotel. Placed right off the golden sand beaches of Mylopotas, the hotel offers a stunning view of the island and ensures a comfortable and relaxing experience for all attendees. WiFi access is available for free in the pool area and in the conference hall.
