Oddity in file naming and Medial Library references

After installing and regenerating all the images we’re seeing some irregular behaviour in the Media Library. For example, lots of images are showing their original .JPG file extension and lots are showing their .WEBP extension. What is the expected behaviour here?

I’m trying achieve some consistency – the site also uploads products to Amazon and they are now failing as Amazon won’t accept .WEBP uploads.
It is happening on the images that are showing the .WEBP extension in the Media Library and not the ones showing .JPG in the Media Library.
