Today, Good Things and the National AI Centre are bringing together leaders from government, industry, academia and the community sector to explore the essential role of community-based AI literacy in Australia’s AI skills ecosystem. The roundtable will be co-chaired by Jess Wilson, CEO of Good Things, and Lee Hickin, Executive Director of the National AI Centre. As AI becomes part of everyday life, people need more than access to new technology. They need the skills and confidence to make informed choices about when and how to use it, trusted places to learn and support when they need it. Professor Anthony McCosker will share emerging research from a Community Panel led by researchers at Swinburne University of Technology, in collaboration with Telstra, alongside insights from action research across our ten AI for Good AI Hubs. AI for Good, delivered in partnership with Telstra, Microsoft and LinkedIn, has reached more than 30,000 people, with over 2,000 participating directly in AI literacy learning through ten AI Hubs. We’re also looking forward to hearing directly from Zeina Nachar and Dolien Nicolsen from Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Community College and Lily Kovacevic from Network of Inner East Community Houses, who will share the community perspective on delivering AI literacy. Held as part of #GetOnlineWeek, the roundtable is part of our broader work to close the digital divide and help everyone feel confident in an increasingly digital world. We’re looking forward to bringing these different perspectives around the table today to test what we’re learning and explore what Australia needs to do next. 👉 Read more about the emerging insights and why community-based AI learning matters: https://lnkd.in/gyaXnfgs

AI can help people in many areas, but to use it safely and confidently, people need the right set of skills and support. That is what 10 AI Hubs have been doing all over Australia, helping and teaching people in their communities to access and explore new AI platforms and tools and embedding those tools into their work. Learn more about MercyCare and how they are supporting people in Perth under the AI for Good program. Thanks to our partners Telstra, Microsoft, LinkedIn, and the National AI Centre for making this program possible. #AI #AIliteracy #Digitalskills #digitalinclusion

Getting online shouldn't mean choosing between a phone bill and groceries, but for many Australians it does. Ahead of Get Online Week (19-25 October), ACCAN has teamed up with Good Things Australia to focus on affordability. Figures from Good Things' Australian Attitudes to Getting Online 2026 report: • 13% are choosing between internet or phone bills and essentials like food or housing • 18% can't afford a new computer, laptop or smartphone but need one • 30% are cutting back on subscriptions because they can't afford them Affordable access connects people to work, services, family, and the world around them. Digital inclusion has to cover affordability, not just skills, and that's where ACCAN's work sits alongside Good Things' digital skills focus. Read the report: goodthings.org.au #GetOnlineWeek

Our new research reveals that half of Australians are unsure when it's appropriate to use AI, and 39% are worried about AI’s impact on society and the environment. As part of #GetOnlineWeek, we surveyed 2,000 everyday Australians from all walks of life to understand people's attitudes to getting online and how they are navigating the rapid technological changes, AI, online safety and the cost and pressure of keeping up.
