  • Hello from the UN Biodiversity Conference. #COP17 Our team is on the ground alongside a delegation of more than 90 participants, engaging with policymakers, business leaders and partners on how to turn biodiversity commitments into real-world outcomes. We're advocating for clear policies, effective financing solutions and stronger partnerships that can help close the biodiversity finance gap. Closing that gap will require collaboration across sectors. Governments, investors, businesses and all other stakeholders each have a role to play in enabling investment in nature. Don’t confuse political fragmentation for commercial disconnection. That was my message to a vibrant Bangkok during the IMF/World Bank annual meetings last week. Despite the turbulence, business continues to find ways to connect. The International Chamber of Commerce's upcoming ICC Chamber Pulse report shows exactly this. Six in 10 chambers expect business activity to strengthen in 2026, a 20% increase from 2025. That opportunity is most palpable in subregional economic corridors – from the Greater Mekong Subregion to the East African Community, from the Balkans to SIECA in Central America. The question is simple: how do we accelerate and strengthen this commercial connectivity? Back the SMEs driving it. They make up 90% of business globally and half of employment worldwide. That is what we are doing through ICC’s TradeRoots initiative, which equips SMEs to turn their exports from national to international. And we are not alone. From President @Ajay Banga announcing the World Bank’s new SME strategy on our panel to @Deputy Prime Minister Suthumpun outlining her target of a 40% SME contribution to Thailand's economy, ICC has strong partners in this ambition. We must also modernise the regulatory approaches to trade finance. The ICC's 2025 trade register report shows a default rate for import letters of credit of just 0.24% - but current requirements make it commercially unviable. We have the data – and with the support of WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop and others, we are ready to apply it. Finally, we need to fix the areas where geopolitics actually is putting a strain on commerce. For Thailand and many other countries, the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz is a food crisis as much as an energy one. Yet it would only take the safe passage of 3-5 ships worth of fertiliser daily to avert a looming food security catastrophe. With the United Nations Secretary General, UNOPS and the International Maritime Organization, we have a ready to use mechanism – now, leaders need to back it. Political fragmentation may be a fact today. But economic connectivity will continue regardless. ขอบคุณครับ to our Thai hosts for such a warm reception at a time of national mourning.

First published in 1933, the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits has helped facilitate the smooth running of international trade, providing an essential reference for bankers, lawyers, and trade professionals. As #tradefinance continues to evolve, what comes next? The ICC Global Banking Commission Meeting is bringing the global trade finance community together to discuss digital trade finance, sustainable trade finance, regulatory developments, and the role of technology in shaping the future of trade. • ☠️ Maritime piracy incidents are at their lowest for this period since 1992. But the threat to seafarers remains. The latest ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB) Piracy Report recorded 51 incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships in the first nine months of 2026, down sharply compared with the same period last year. Yet the resurgence of Somali piracy is a reminder that lower numbers do not mean lower risk. Continued vigilance, timely incident reporting and strict adherence to Best Management Practices remain essential to protecting seafarers, keeping shipping routes secure and safeguarding global trade. #IMBPiracy | Read the full report: https://bit.ly/4B4WDh7

  • Outdated tariff codes can have real costs for businesses. When tariff classifications and rules of origin in free trade agreements use different Harmonized System editions, businesses face additional compliance work and uncertainty when determining whether their goods qualify for preferential tariffs. This can be particularly challenging for businesses operating across multiple FTAs. Our latest policy paper examines technical rectification can help keep rules of origin aligned with changes to the Harmonized System. • Climate ambition must be matched by climate delivery. At Pre-COP31 in Fiji, we delivered a statement on behalf of the global business community, representing 45 million companies worldwide. Our message was clear: businesses remain committed to the Paris Agreement. Now, we need the policy signals, financing solutions and public-private cooperation required to scale implementation. As the road to #COP31 in Antalya continues, the focus must be on turning investment and ambition into real-world results. Read the full statement: https://bit.ly/4ASfY51
