Hey Network 👋🏾 ,
I’m putting myself out there and looking for an opportunity.
Over a month ago I’ve had the opportunity to take part in I have a voice CIC (IHAV) Public Affairs Training Scheme, gaining a much better understanding of what working in policy and public affairs actually looks like in practice. I visited People's Partnership, Grayling, GK Strategy, British Business Bank and Barnardo's to see the work they do within policy and public affairs.
Through IHAV, I’ve developed experience in the policy process, stakeholder mapping, political monitoring and communications, including working as part of a team to develop and present our campaign on the changes to Graduate Visa, why the government should reverse it and how international students can contribute to the UK economy.
What I enjoyed most about the process was understanding the evidence; different perspectives around it, and thinking about how I turn that into something that can influence decision-makers.
IHAV has built on the experience I’ve gained through my time at University of Nottingham, my placement at Pathway Housing Solutions, and my involvement with the Black Sport Collective. Across these experiences, I’ve developed skills in research, writing, stakeholder engagement, communications and project organisation.
I’m looking for entry-level opportunities in policy, public affairs, influencing, research or external affairs.
So, I’m putting this out to my network:
If you work in policy, public affairs, research, campaigning, communications or a related field, I’d really appreciate any advice, introductions or opportunities you think I should know about.
And if you know of an organisation looking for someone I’d love to hear from you.
Thank you! 🫶🏾
