These parents have a simple message on behalf of all children - put their futures first and STOP ROSEBANK. New oil and gas drilling is incompatible with safe climate limits. If approved, Rosebank would contribute over a quarter of a billion tonnes of CO2. Andy Burnham needs to put the lives of our children above the profits of oil bosses.

Parents for Future campaigners urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham to reject the controversial Rosebank oil field outside the Labour conference in Liverpool yesterday. Parents from PfF groups across the North West joined the Fire Brigades Union Trade Unionists from Unite and other campaigners. Our message was loud and clear: Approving new oil and gas projects won't keep the climate safe for our children. Co-Director Lucie Brown said: “Families in the UK are already struggling with overheating homes and schools as the climate emergency accelerates. Approving new oil and gas projects would be reckless after the record breaking summer of extreme heat, drought and wildfires. The science is clear: developing new fossil fuel projects is incompatible with keeping our climate safe. This is the defining test of Burnham's new government.” As concerned parents, we call on the Prime Minister to reject Rosebank and accelerate the shift to clean homegrown energy instead. Huge thanks to the parents who came together from our local groups in North Tyneside, Manchester, Cheshire and Stroud. #StopRosebank #LabourPartyConference #ForFuturesSake

Deeper organising and anti racism in UK climate spaces This month we’ve launched the second iteration of Parents For Future UK's Anti-Racism training. Designed by Anti-Racism Lead, Aisha M. and supported by Co-director Lucie Brown, The ‘Climate of Care’ programme facilitates anti-racist practice in the climate space by: 💭 Exploring how power, privilege and white supremacy shape the climate crisis 💭 Emphasising radical compassion as a form of dismantling and resisting white supremacy 💭 Building awareness, skills and perspectives to create a more just and inclusive movement Care and anti-oppression are at the heart of Parents For Future UK with committed volunteer groups meeting regularly to develop guidance, tools and space for activist parents and carers. We know from history and experience that actions and protests alone won’t take us out of this crisis and that movements have a habit of reproducing familiar racial and power dynamics - so we spend as much time developing a deeper, sustainable organising model as we do on our comms and campaigning. Aisha M. draws on the experience of marginalised communities who have often spent generations organising for justice, with histories that have long confronted environmental destruction and systemic injustice. These experiences have produced knowledge, strategies, and forms of resilience that the climate movement urgently needs - we’re incredibly grateful to Aisha for so generously sharing her wisdom, skills and approaches. Aisha and Lucie are holding the programme as a space of inquiry, solidarity and support. The first two weeks have demonstrated again the willingness of our members to grow their awareness and confront systems of white supremacy in order to organise in a way that is as just, inclusive and sustainable as possible. We’re collectively creating a container in which to delve deeper over the coming weeks. This is an ongoing practice that we’ll continue to hold and support both as a cohort and in our Access & Inclusion working group beyond the 10 week programme - we’d love to hear how others are integrating anti-racism in their climate justice spaces and we’ll share key insights from this training at the end of the year. #MovementBuilding #Organising #AntiRacism #ClimateCrisis

The fact there isn't a blanket ban on all fossil fuel advertising beggars belief, but advertising to our kids in a science centre 🤯! Science centres should be unbiased beacons of inspiration for our kids. Allowing Equinor to use an educational space for marketing compromises the centre’s scientific credibility and educational integrity. Moreover, the mixed messages this sends our kids is irresponsible and dangerous - particularly given that Equinor recently slashed its investment in renewables and shifted its primary focus back to fossil fuel production. If Equinor wants to support the next generation, it should immediately Stop Rosebank and switch its focus to transitioning to renewable energy - FAST. The brilliant @EllenOrmesher included some of the thoughts I shared with her in the below @Desmog article. https://lnkd.in/einscUxd #ClimateCrisis #BanFossilFuelAdvertsing #StopRosebank

At no point since the 60's should any new fossil fuel project have been seen as 'pragmatic'. But right now, as the heat records are shattered, wildfires rage, our hospitals are unable to cope, and we've seen over 3000 excess deaths in the UK alone? Andy Burnham urgently needs to lead on this crisis - there is nothing 'pragmatic' about ANY new oil or gas project. If a Cobra meeting leading to a 'possible ban on disposable BBQs' doesn't quite cut it for you, have your say TODAY. The Gov's consultation on the enormous Rosebank oil field closes on Monday. We've made a quick link below to help folk respond in 2 minutes. Please don't miss this opportunity. #ForFuturesSake Link here: https://lnkd.in/e_s3FdzF #Heatwave #Climatecrisis #StopRosebank @Parents for Future UK
