Britney Spears files for divorce
Image
TMZ obtained the legal papers, filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences." In her petition, Spears asks for both legal and physical custody of the couple's two children, one-year old Sean Preston and two-month old Jayden James, with Federline getting reasonable visitation rights.

As for money, sources tell TMZ the couple, who married in Sept. 2004, has an iron-clad prenup. Not surprisingly, Spears is waiving her right to spousal support. She's also asking the judge to make each party pay their own attorney's fees.

Spears gives the date of separation as yesterday, the same day she flaunted her incredible revamped physique during a surprise appearance on David Letterman's show. Sources tell TMZ there was no single reason for Britney pulling the plug, rather, it was "a string of events."

Judge dismisses Britney Spears libel suit
Image
On Monday, an L.A. judge dismissed a libel suit filed last year by pop icon Britney Spears against US Weekly after the magazine printed a story about an alleged sex tape made by the singer and her husband.

According to a public announcement detailing Los Angeles Supreme Court Judge Lisa Hart Cole's ruling on Monday, the suit filed by Britney Spears and Kevin Federline does not provide sufficient evidence of libelous intent on the part of the magazine article.

The article, which appeared in a 2005 US Weekly column, "Hot Stuff," reported that Britney and Kevin warned their lawyers that a person in their entourage had recorded them in an intimate encounter and were worried that an X-rated sex tape could surface in the media.

The article also reported that the two pop performers had a copy of the tape.

The suit accuses the article of libel for portraying Britney's actions during the viewing of the tape as "goofy."

Considering the issue of whether or not the magazine showed defamation in stating that the husband and wife had produced a sex tape, the judge concluded that the suit was not libelous because Britney has already placed her sexuality "profitably, before the public eye."

Noting a 2005 reality TV show starring Spears and Federline, in which the couple's lives were documented, including racy sexual footage, the article did not report anything that could be considered defamatory.

Kanye West has tantrum on stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards

Hip-hop star Kanye West stormed on stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards Thursday night, when he missed out on Best Video to Justice Vs. Simian.

The rapper was nominated in three categories -- Best Male, Best Video for "Touch the Sky" and Best Hip-Hop -- at the Copenhagen, Denmark, award, but only took home the latter.

On the red carpet prior to the award, West told MTV, "I should definitely win best hip-hop. I should definitely win that (best video) also."

However, when French DJ Justice went on stage to accept the Best Video trophy for "We Are Your Friends," a furious West joined him.

West shouted, "[Bleep] this! My video cost a million dollars.

"Pamela Anderson was in it, I was jumping across canyons and [bleep]! If I don't win, the awards show loses credibility. Nothing against you (Justice Vs Simian), but hell man."

At the press conference afterward, West was still angry over the award, saying, "I haven't seen (the Justice and Simian video). Possibly it could have been quite good, but no way better than 'Touch The Sky.'

"That is complete [bleep], I paid a million. Obviously it's not all about the money, but the response it got transcended everything, it really made great TV. It took a month to film; I stood on a mountain; I flew a helicopter over Vegas. I did it to be the king of all videos and I wanted to walk home with that award.

"(The reason the other video won) -- That was some spread the love [bleep], 'Oh everyone should have an award.' Please press people print, 'Kanye says [bleep] that!'"

Snoop Dogg charged with carrying weapon
Image
Snoop Dogg, who was found carrying a collapsible baton through security at a southern California airport, has been charged with possession of a deadly weapon in the case, prosecutors said on Thursday.

An arrest warrant was issued for the 35-year-old rapper under his real name, Calvin Broadus, a spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney's Office said. He faces a maximum sentence of three years in state prison if convicted.

"He either turns himself in or he gets picked up by law enforcement," spokeswoman Susan Schroeder said, adding that prosecutors had contacted the entertainer's representatives and asked that he surrender.

Schroeder said Broadus was trying to catch a flight from Orange County's John Wayne Airport with two bodyguards on September 27 when airport security saw a long metal object in his laptop case. Opening the case, the officers discovered a 20-inch (51 cm) collapsible baton inside.

The rap star also was arrested last week at the Burbank airport, outside Los Angeles, after police said they found a gun and marijuana in his car. He was booked and released on $35,000 bail in that case.

Though possession of the baton could be filed as a lesser misdemeanor charge, Schroeder said Broadus was charged with a felony "based on his background and criminal record."

SNL's Maya Rudolph sues over bed bug infestation
Image
A $450,000 lawsuit says that immediately after Maya Rudolph, movie director Paul Anderson and their baby moved into the third-floor condominium loft apartment they were renting in SoHo last month, something began chewing on them at night.

'The plaintiffs were bitten over portions of their bodies by bedbugs,' the court papers say. 'Apparently unbeknown to plaintiffs, the premises were infested with bedbugs.'

Rudolph, in her seventh season on Saturday Night Live, and Anderson, director of 'Boogie Nights,' had been told the apartment was 'perfect' and was in a 'first-class luxury' building, their court papers say.

The couple had signed a $13,500-a.m.onth lease, paying two months rent and a month's security as well as a month's rent as a broker's commission, say papers filed Wednesday in Manhattan's state Supreme Court.

Almost as bad as the bedbugs, court papers say, was that the couple were unable to flee the infestation conveniently because for at least six of their first 11 days in the building the elevator was out of order.

After Rudolph and Anderson complained, an exterminator showed up on Oct. 17 and advised them to leave, at least for a few weeks, for the sake of their year-old baby. They left and never returned, said their lawyer Kenneth J. Glassman.

The lawsuit names Halstead Property LLC, the broker, and Francis Feeney, the owner of the apartment, as defendants. It seeks a total of $450,500 in compensatory and punitive damages, repayment of rent and broker's fees and legal fees.

Wesley Snipes Reaches Settlement on Tax Evasion
Image
Wesley Snipes has reached a settlement with the Internal Revenue Service regarding his tax fraud charges.

The agreement will likely see Snipes surrender to federal authorities when he next returns to America.

In return for agreeing to a payment plan, Snipes will not be jailed and will be allowed both to continue working and to travel abroad.

According to an October 17 indictment, Snipes tried to unsuccessfully claim nearly $12 million in false refunds for taxes he paid in 1996 and 1997.

The "Blade" star had his taxes prepared by accountants with a history of filing false returns to reap payments for their clients.

Brad Pitt poses in underwear; thinks it will never be used on magazine cover...duh, dummy!
Image
Brad Pitt is furious that a photograph of him taken by artist Robert Wilson last year has wound up on the cover of an issue of Vanity Fair.

The star's lawyers are currently considering legal action against the magazine, insisting the actor had no idea he was going to appear on the December cover.

Pitt is seen posing in a blue-colored photo in nothing but white boxer shorts, socks and holding a gun while appearing to be drenched with water.

According to entertainment Web site TMZ.com, Pitt had agreed to be in Wilson's avant-garde video art project in September and signed a legal release at the time for the still and video images taken in the shoot, but had no idea they would ever be used for a magazine cover.

Pitt's representative says, "We are very disappointed that Vanity Fair has chosen to put an unauthorized cover on their magazine. It seriously makes me question their integrity and motives."

Representatives for Vanity Fair have hit back at the allegations saying, "In a letter dated October 5, 2006, and sent to Pitt care of Brillstein-Grey (Pitt's managers), Wilson informed Pitt that a still image from this portrait was going to be featured in the December art issue of Vanity Fair."

A source claims the star never saw the letter.

The Vanity Fair representative adds, "Brad Pitt posed for a Robert Wilson video portrait, and in the photo release (signed by Pitt), agreed to allow Wilson to use the portrait or any images from that sitting in connection with any publicity on Wilson's video project.

"Vanity Fair decided to do a story on Wilson's video portraits and obtained rights to the entire collection of photographs from those sittings, which included Pitt's."

K-Fed performs; and surprise! audience boos!
Image
Kevin Federline calls himself "America's Most Hated" and last night he proved it, as his Halloween performance was met with a chorus of boos -- and not of the ghostly variety.

Before the first beat dropped from his new song "Privilege," Federleezy was bombarded with jeers from the costume-clad crowd at the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival. To his credit, the ratio of haters-to-fans hovered somewhere around 50-50, with at least half the crowd actually screaming in anticipation of K-Fed's performance.

More Drugs Found In Daniel Smith's System
Image
Anna Nicole Smith's son Daniel had at least seven drugs in his system when he died on Sept. 10, toxicology reports indicate.

Dr. Cyril Wecht, a private pathologist hired by the Smith family, confirms to PEOPLE that the antidepressant Amitriptyline, as well as two over-the-counter cold medicines, were found in Daniel's body along with methadone and the antidepressants Lexapro and Zoloft. Sources also tell PEOPLE that a mild over-the-counter sedative was found in the 20-year-old's system.

However, Wecht said the other medications played no role in Daniel's death, and reiterated his assertion that Daniel was killed by the combination of Lexapro, Zoloft and methadone. Of the other medications, he said, "The levels are insignificant and they don't mean a thing. They're of no consequence."

Flavor Flav expecting 7th Child and it's not with Deelishis
Image
Although Flavor Flav selected contestant Deelishis (real name: London Charles) as the winner of his heart on the Oct. 15 second-season finale of his VH1 show Flavor of Love, he is expecting a child – his seventh – with another woman, his manager confirms to PEOPLE.

"Flav has confirmed this and Deelishis is aware that after things did not work with the season-one winner (Nicole "Hoopz" Alexander), Flav conceived a child with a woman he had been dating on and off," the rapper's manager says. The baby is due Jan. 2.

The manager declined to provide additional details, explaining that the reality star's private life is just that, private. He did say, however, that Flav does not know the sex of the baby.

Flav first broke the news on radio's Tom Joyner Morning Show. He still loves Deelishis, he said, and the baby's mother is not "a Flavor of Love lady."

Reacting to the news that Flav was about to have his seventh child, Joyner said, "Man, you are running out of flavors."

Replied Flav: "I want 10 (children). And one thing I will never do is deny any of my kids."

Asked if he would marry the woman, whom Flav described only as a "shorty in Las Vegas," the rapper said, "I'm not marrying anybody. I'm too young to die."

He did insist, however, that his relationship with Deelishis, who has a daughter named Jasmine, isn't over, and said he recently met her family in Detroit and they loved him, despite his reputation as "the black Hugh Hefner."

Bill Maher finally goes to far.. or did he?
Image
Talk show host Bill Maher has sparked outrage after appearing at numerous Halloween parties over the weekend dressed as Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, complete with a bloody stingray barb attached to a khaki shirt.

The outfit is among the top Halloween costumes in the U.S. this year, and while some have found it amusing, others insist it is an insult to the late conservationist who died after a stingray attack in September.

Photos of the celebrity comedian making the rounds at Halloween parties in Los Angeles over the weekend have been widely circulated on the Internet.

Maher hosts the weekly talk show "Real Time with Bill Maher" on HBO and has angered some of his fans.

One fan wrote on the star's official Web site, "I suppose he thought it was funny, but it was seriously lacking taste, decorum and respect for Steve's family."

Another fan wrote, "I am kind of torn on it -- I have a good sense of humor but this one is just kind of tacky."

Anna Nicole Smith gives first interview to ET
Image
Anna Nicole Smith sits down for her first TV interview since the death of her son Daniel in September.

"Entertainment Tonight" reporter Mark Steines calls his exclusive interview, which begins airing Thursday, a "veritable rollercoaster of emotions."

On Tuesday, the model was hospitalized with pneumonia at the same medical center in the Bahamas where her 20-year-old son, Daniel, died in September, an attorney for Smith told The Associated Press.

"She has a slight case of pneumonia," attorney Wayne Munroe told the AP. "We've had a sudden change of weather here due to a cold snap."

In his blog on "Entertainment Tonight's" Web site, Steines says he traveled to the Bahamas where he met Smith's new baby daughter, Dannielynn, and was introduced to Howard K. Stern, her lawyer, whom she now calls her husband. In a video excerpt of the interview on the Web site, Smith talks about her son's death and is heard sobbing, "I don't understand why God took him and didn't take me."

Steines says his interview with the model was one of the most interesting experiences of his 15 years with the entertainment show, and that he learned "fear of constant paparazzi keeps Anna and her support team locked up, blinds drawn, and constantly aware that prying eyes are trying to snap photos."

"She seemed calmer, sadder, a bit broken, yet she looked quite beautiful," he says. "She introduced me to her daughter, Dannielynn, and the man she calls her husband, Howard K. Stern. She was a very gracious host in the midst of some pretty dramatic times."

"If I didn't have Howard or my baby, I wouldn't be here," Smith says in a video excerpt of the interview, available on the Web site.

When the talk turns to her son Daniel, who died days after his sister's birth and was buried Oct. 19, Smith sobs.

"But it is when she utters the name of her son, Daniel, that Anna Nicole is no longer able to compose herself," Steines says. "She crumbles like a house of cards, tears pouring out of her eyes, her body shaking from the sobbing. This is not just a controversial, misunderstood woman, this is a mother who has lost a child."

Image
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have separated. The couple's rep released a statement to TMZ Monday morning that says "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."

Sources tell TMZ Witherspoon has contacted celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley.

Sources say Witherspoon spoke with Kaufman about divorcing Ryan Phillippe, her husband of seven years. The couple has two children. They met at Witherspoon's 21st birthday party.

As for why Witherspoon contacted Kaufman, we're told it was not triggered by one event. Rather, one connected source says it was "cumulative."

Divorce papers have not yet been filed.

Barbra Streisand pelted with ice during concert
Image
Barbra Streisand was shocked when a concertgoer disagreed with her political views and pelted her with ice while she was performing in south Florida on Monday night.

The music legend was on stage at the BankAtlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale and brought out a President George W. Bush impersonator during one part of her show.

The impersonator jokingly asked her if they could sing a song together, to which Streisand replied, "How about 'Enough Is Enough'?", referring to her 1970s disco duet with Donna Summer.

At that point a disgruntled fan threw ice at the 64-year-old star, according to TMZ.com.

Streisand managed to stay calm and reassured the audience, "It's OK, it's OK."

When fans asked the staunch Democrat to sing a song for the Republicans, she suggested "Send in the Clowns," which reportedly upset another fan, who started to loudly boo the singer.

Both the heckler and the ice thrower were escorted out of the venue, which caused Streisand to quip, "If you want to hear my songs, buy my albums and stay at home," which caused the remaining fans to applaud enthusiastically.
