These terms are the agreement between you and Cartoonist Network. By making an account, or by using the site without one, you accept them.

They are written to be read. Where a sentence could be shorter without losing its meaning, it is.

1. Who you are dealing with

Cartoonist Network is operated by ARIFUR RAHMAN ENK, a sole proprietorship registered in Norway.

You can reach us at hello@cartoonistnetwork.com, and the help desk is where anything needing an answer should go, because it is read by a person and it keeps a record you can follow.

2. Who may use it

You must be 16 or older.

One person, one account. You may also hold an account for an organisation you are entitled to represent, and it must say which organisation it is.

What you put on your profile about who you are should be true. You do not have to use your legal name — many cartoonists cannot safely — but you may not present yourself as somebody else, and impersonating a person or a publication is the one identity rule we enforce without discussion.

3. Your work stays yours

You keep the copyright to everything you publish here. Nothing in these terms transfers it, and nothing on this site buys it.

What you give us is narrow, and only so the site can work: permission to store your work, show it on the site, make the smaller copies a page needs, include it in listings and search on this site, and show it in the site's own promotion of the work published here. That permission is non-exclusive, carries no fee either way, and ends when you remove the work, except for copies in backups until those age out.

We do not license your work to anyone else. We do not sell it unless you list it for sale, and that is a separate agreement — the distribution agreement — which you accept separately.

Your work is never used to train AI, by us or by anybody we allow near it. No licence sold here permits it, and that term is not for sale at any price.

You may publish the same work anywhere else. Nothing here is exclusive.

4. What you may not publish

The community guidelines are the detail, and they are part of these terms. In short: publish work that is yours to publish, label what has to be labelled, and do not use this place to harass anybody.

Two duties are worth restating because the site relies on your answer:

  • Say whether AI was used. Every upload asks, and the answer is yours — we do not guess and we do not run a classifier over your drawings. Answering falsely is a breach of these terms.
  • Say if work is sensitive. Adult or graphic work is published, and it is placed so that people meet it by choice.

5. What we may do about it

If something breaches these terms we may hide it, refuse it, or suspend the account. We will tell you what was decided and why — a decision with no reason given is not one we should be making, and you can dispute any of it through the help desk.

Hiding is not deleting. A hidden work comes out of every public place and stays readable to its artist. Suspension is reversible and erases nothing.

We may remove an account outright for impersonation, for repeated infringement of other people's work, or where the law requires it.

6. Somebody else's rights

If you believe work here infringes your copyright, tell us through the contact form with the address of the work and what you hold the rights to. We take it seriously and we act on it.

If work of yours is removed on a claim you think is wrong, say so. You will be told a claim was made, and disputing it is not itself a breach of anything.

7. Buying and selling

Selling is not open yet. Nothing on this site can be bought or sold today, and nobody has been asked to agree to anything about it.

When it opens, selling your work will be governed by the distribution agreement and buying by the terms for buyers. Both are written, both sit alongside this page, and both are published here before anybody can list or buy anything — not afterwards. You accept the one that applies to you separately, and neither replaces these terms; they sit on top of them.

8. The site itself

We try to keep it running and we do not promise that it always will be. There is no uptime guarantee, and there will be maintenance.

Keep your own copies of your work. You can export everything at any time, and you should. This is not a backup service and no platform should be treated as one.

We may change how the site works, and we may stop offering a feature. If a change takes something away that matters, we will say so rather than let you find out.

9. What we are responsible for

We are responsible for our own failures, and we do not exclude anything the law does not let us exclude — which in Norway and the EEA includes death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, and your rights as a consumer.

Beyond that, we are not responsible for what other members do, for work somebody else published, for a deal you make with another member off this site, or for loss of profit or opportunity.

10. Changing these terms

We may change them. If a change materially affects what you agreed to, we will tell you before it takes effect — through the site and, where it matters, by email — and say what changed.

Continuing to use the site after that is acceptance. If you would rather not, you can leave and take your work with you.

11. Ending it

You can leave whenever you like. Everything goes dark at once and is erased after thirty days, and signing in during those thirty days undoes it. Three things survive and none of them are about you being here: licences somebody bought, contracts you signed with another person, and the money record the law requires.

We can end your account for a breach of these terms, and will say why.

12. Law

These terms are governed by Norwegian law, and disputes belong to the Norwegian courts.

If you are a consumer in the EEA, this does not take away the protection of your own country's mandatory consumer law, or your right to bring a case where you live.

13. If you have a complaint

Write to the help desk first — most things are a misunderstanding and are fixed in a day. If we cannot settle it, a consumer in Norway can take it to the Norwegian Consumer Authority, and a consumer in the EEA can use their own national body.

For anything about your personal data, the privacy notice says what we hold and what you can make us do about it, and the supervisory authority is Datatilsynet in Norway.
