Everything you need to write about Cartoonist Network accurately, including the figures — each one links to the page you can count it on yourself.

The figures

These are live, not a snapshot, so they change as the platform does — please date any figure you quote. “Cartoonists with published work” is members who have published something, which is what the directory lists; it is not a registered-account number, and we would rather you did not use one. The languages figure is not the interface. It counts the languages a comic can be published in. The interface itself reads in 61 languages, which is a separate list and a separate number — please do not add them together.

Boilerplate

One line

Cartoonist Network is the global network for cartoonists and visual storytellers.

One paragraph

Cartoonist Network is where cartoonists, illustrators and comic artists publish their work and keep every right to it. It is a portfolio home, a place to serialise a comic, and a directory editors can search by discipline and by country. Members set their own licences and prices, keep their copyright, and receive 70% of every sale.

How long it has been here

The platform was rebuilt from nothing in September 2026, and the line behind it starts on 1 November 2009 with Toons Mag — an online cartoon magazine founded in Norway by the Bangladeshi cartoonist Arifur Rahman, publishing in English, Bengali, Arabic, Spanish and Hindi. Its social half, My Toons Mag, opened on 5 September 2011, became Cartoonist Club in 2015, and has carried the name Cartoonist Network since February 2018. The membership came with it.

The part that is actually the story

Nothing published on Cartoonist Network is licensed for AI training — not as a default a member has to find and switch off, not for a higher fee, and not quietly through a change of terms. The term is written into every licence sold, it cannot be bought out, and it survives the end of the licence. The platform reserves text and data mining rights in machine-readable form, blocks the known training crawlers, and asks every artist to declare whether AI was used in a work rather than guessing with a classifier — a declaration it will not make on their behalf, and leaves as “not declared” until they do.

Interviews and artist introductions We will not pass on a member’s contact details. Write to the address above with what you are working on and we will ask the artist whether they would like to talk to you — which is the only version of that favour worth doing.
