To support the prevention and resolution of conflicts by expanding access to alternative dispute resolution.

About us

American Arbitration Association-International Centre for Dispute Resolution Foundation® (AAA-ICDR Foundation®) was established in 2015 with the purpose to fund critical projects, domestically and internationally. This effort fills important needs in the ADR community by expanding the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), improving the process, increasing access to ADR for those who cannot afford it, and sharing knowledge across different cultures. The Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization from the AAA and is able to solicit donations and provide grants to fund a range of worthy causes that promote the Foundation’s wide-reaching mission. The Foundation is not involved in any way in the oversight, administration or decision making of the AAA-ICDR cases or in the maintenance of the AAA-ICDR's various rosters of arbitrators and mediators.

  • Crisis doesn't wait for business hours—and neither does BUILD Chicago's Crisis Response Unit. With support from an AAA-ICDR Foundation grant, Monique Draper and her team meet community members in their hardest moments with both practical and emotional support. The work of BUILD is to help people navigate hospital and legal systems, connect them to the right resources, and let them know they're not facing this difficulty alone. BUILD’s mobile mental health unit carries that same care out into the wider community. This is what our grant dollars make possible: real people, showing up for their neighbors, backed by an organization committed to doing it well. Proud to support BUILD Chicago's work building safer, more connected communities.

  • Behind every grant, scholarship, and community partnership is a network of supporters who make our mission possible. First and foremost, we extend our deepest gratitude to the American Arbitration Association. The AAA-ICDR Foundation would not exist without the extraordinary generosity of the AAA and its Roster of Arbitrators and Mediators, whose monetary and in-kind contributions have exceeded $15 million over the past decade. We also proudly recognize our Chair's Circle donors and Leadership donors. Their commitment to advancing alternative dispute resolution helps expand access to mediation, support innovative research, strengthen education, and invest in communities around the world. Thank you to every donor who has helped shape the Foundation's first 10 years. Your generosity continues to make a lasting impact.

  • The AAA-ICDR Foundation has entered a new chapter of granting. As outlined in our 2025 Annual Report, the Foundation's strategic priority is advancing mediation and conflict resolution by integrating these practices into alternative crisis response initiatives and supporting community-centered approaches to public safety and law enforcement engagement. To advance this work, the Foundation is proactively identifying organizations whose efforts align with this priority and inviting them to submit proposals for the Annual Grant Cycle. This is an invitation-only process, allowing the Foundation to strategically invest in initiatives with the greatest potential for lasting impact. Learn more about our new priority in the 2025 Annual Report. https://bit.ly/4fh8sbv

  • Your support has empowered the AAA-ICDR Foundation to help build more peaceful communities by expanding access to alternative dispute resolution and equipping people with the tools to prevent and constructively resolve conflict. Through your generosity, the Foundation advances innovative ADR initiatives, invests in the next generation of dispute resolution professionals through scholarships, and strengthens schools, communities, and court-connected programs through mediation, arbitration, and other effective forms of dispute resolution in the United States and around the world. As we begin our second decade, we remain committed to investing in the ideas and organizations shaping the future of conflict resolution. We are grateful for your continued partnership as we build on the impact of the past 10 years.

  • Ten years ago, the AAA-ICDR Foundation was created with a simple but powerful mission: expand access to alternative dispute resolution and help communities resolve conflict more constructively. In this year’s Annual Report, Foundation Chair Bruce Meyerson reflects on a decade of growth, impact, and partnership that has helped the Foundation support nearly 500 initiatives and distribute more than $12 million in grants. From youth conflict resolution education and restorative justice programs to mediation-centered crisis response initiatives, this work continues to demonstrate the lasting impact of investing in dialogue, access, and community-based solutions.
