Congrats Rachel Mapplebeck and the ACE team for tackling something so big and so crucial to so many people in the creative industries. Independent workers make up 35% of the UK creative workforce and this is only going to rise. This new framework will means that more people can see self employment and fractional working as a viable career path - at any stage of their career - and will provide much needed practical advice and support to help people make a success of it. A little over a year ago we founded Creative Freedoms in a space that had no such support system - the freelance and consultant landscape is changing beyond recognition and we are proud to play our part. The #FreelancersHandbook is out today. I’m so proud to have written and co-edited this for Arts Council England. 80,000 words packed full of the essentials for cultural freelancers and the organisations they work with, including info and guidance on: 💫 fair pay and contracting 💫 late payment and recourse mechanisms 💫 legal and financial knowledge 💫 where to find work 💫 growing networks 💫 continuing professional development 💫 financial support and wellbeing for cultural freelancers 💫 plus, a Resources Directory with hundreds of key resources and contacts I’ve also shared practical tools such as fee calculators, a contracting checklist, email templates, invoice guidance and pay negotiation tips. 🔗 Explore the free handbook and directory:https://lnkd.in/e4sXVdna Thanks to everyone who together made this happen Yasmin Khan Erica Campayne Luke Moore Lizzy Emmerton Leila D'Aronville FRSA Furaha Asani, PhD Caitriona Shoobridge Bill Boyle Elaine Perks and more I hope all this hard work is helpful to my brilliant fellow freelancers. It aims to directly address the key challenges you’re facing and equip you with information and guidance. This is (unofficially!) dedicated to you and the talented bunch I’ve met in my first 3 years as a freelancer, including Miki Lentin Ben Murray Nicole Newman Oliver Vicars-Harris Sian Alexander Lucy Shaw Helen Wilkinson Paul Smith Sheena Balkwill Megan Leckie Meg Molloy David Field and many more. But this will only work if cultural organisations adopt this best practice too. For those who haven't managed to visit the new Cecily Brown exhibition at Serpentine, there's an upcoming opportunity to do so this Sunday 12 April with NXT GEN: AWITA x All About Art and Creative Freedoms. We'll be walking and talking around Kensington Gardens - meeting at 2pm - before going in to see the exhibition. NXT Steps is the perfect format for organic networking with fellow arts professionals, I'd really recommend if you've not joined one before! It will also be a great opportunity to learn more about joining both NXT GEN (a community for emerging arts professionals) or Creative Freedoms (a community for self-employed/freelance curious visual arts professionals). Link to RSVP below. Happy to answer any questions and hope to see you there! https://lnkd.in/egsFGF5c

  • On Wednesday, we held the first in-person Creative Freedoms events of the year in London and Dubai. We’ll be doing monthly meet-ups in both locations, with other pop-up events at key moments in the art world calendar. What’s become clear since we opened the door to our first members last year is the importance of making connections, building and supporting communities and creating opportunities. New friendships are being forged, new businesses and joint ventures are being launched, and a whole range of opportunities are being shared with generosity and kindness. Thanks to everyone who has been part of this exciting journey—it’s just beginning. If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, we’d love to welcome you into the CFC family. You can sign up directly via our Member platform: https://lnkd.in/eiQX5nJq Hope to see you at the next event! To entrepreneurship! From co-founders David Field, Aimee Dawson, Ann-Marie E. and Chloë Fairbairn

💥NEWSFLASH 💥 PLEASE SHARE  - We are very pleased to announce 10 fully-funded annual memberships to the Creative Freedoms Collective community.  - Five memberships are being made available to people under 27 who are embarking on their own independent freelance journeys.  - Five more are offered to people who have recently left full-time institutional employment to embark on freelance / consulting careers.   - As part of our commitment to working with some of the best in our business, alongside all the great benefits of CFC membership, each of these memberships will include structured one-to-one mentoring in partnership with Art Market Mentors  - This is all possible with the incredibly generous support of Aliza Lan, and in honour of her late, great Aunt Mei, who was a freelance fashion stylist in Taipei with a passion for connecting people. —— In Aliza’s own words: My Aunt Mei started her career as a freelance fashion stylist over 60 years ago: using the network she established, she helped build one of the companies that brought leading luxury fashion brands, such as Dior and Valentino, into Taiwan. Mei was a force of nature and a believer in forging connections within your own industry. “No connection is too small,” as she used to remind me, because great ideas are so often sparked through casual conversations with other freelancers and entrepreneurs. We live in precarious times as the culture industry has been hit by instability and a slew of restructures and rounds of redundancies. For this - and many other reasons - a whole new generation of people are transitioning into freelancing, consulting and self-employment. Inspired by Aunt Mei’s words of wisdom, we are teaming up with Creative Freedoms to offer ten freelancers a one-year special CFC membership. We’re particularly grateful to Cat Manson and her groundbreaking Art Market Mentors programme. As freelancers and consultants, a network built on meaningful connections is essential. Through the CFC membership and the mentorship, our shared vision is to support entrepreneurs and to see more forward-thinking projects come to fruition. —— To apply please send a covering email (max 500 words) to hello@creativefreedoms.co.uk with details of your career journey so far and how the CFC community can help to support your entrepreneurial dreams. Full details of membership benefits are on our website: https://lnkd.in/eEpfHRGe
