Congratulations to Gino Brogdon Jr. on a great conversation with Sports ’N Torts! Tune in to hear his insights on mediation and the value of experience.
“It’s either triumph or tuition.” That was my favorite line from my conversation with Gino Brogdon Jr. from Miles Mediation & Arbitration and the more I thought about it, the more it seemed to describe his entire career. Sometimes you win. Other times you pay tuition—in time, money, effort or failure—and hopefully come away having learned something that makes you better the next time. Gino has had plenty of reps. Early in his career, he took smaller cases to trial and learned how juries think. When he wanted to make more money, he worked as a personal trainer before and after practicing law, saved about $15,000 and used it to start his own firm. Today, he has conducted more than 2,000 mediations. And those reps have taught him a lot about something that can't easily be learned from a book: people. We talked about reading a room, building trust, understanding how your actions are perceived by the other side, why relationships still matter in the practice of law, and whether AI can ever replace the judgment that comes from doing something thousands of times. We also got into the human side of mediation—emotion, empathy, delivering hard truths and why sometimes a client simply needs to know that the people in the room understand that what happened to them matters. After this conversation it’s no wonder Gino is a top ranked mediator in Georgia. And because it's Gino, we eventually had to discuss the three-piece suits. Really enjoyed this one. Triumph or Tuition: Gino Brogdon, Jr. on 2,000 Mediations, Reading People & the Value of Reps New episode of Sports ’N Torts is out now. #SportsNTorts #Mediation #Negotiation #Leadership #Lawyers https://lnkd.in/eRVBF2in
