Last week, Springfield, Ohio, was the center of the national Advanced Air Mobility conversation. The National AAM Industry Forum brought together innovators, policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to reflect on the state of AAM development in 2026 and the progress of programs. Marc Allen's keynote grounded the conversation in what Electra's breakthroughs in hybrid-electric aviation mean for the broader industry, and what the path from development to commercial operations requires. STEM Day put the next generation of talent in the same room as the aircraft and the people building them. The future of advanced air mobility starts with a student who sees what’s possible. The Great American Electric Aircraft Race gave spectators a firsthand look at electric aircraft competing on a live course over Springfield. If you were there, thank you for being part of it. The nation's integrated build-test-fly ecosystem for Advanced Air Mobility. Real NAS access up to 18,000 feet.
About us
Advanced Air Mobility is no longer theoretical. The aircraft exist, the technology works, and the market is forming. What still slows innovators down is everything around the aircraft: restricted airspace, fragmented infrastructure, and slow approvals. NAAMCE exists to remove those barriers. As the nation's only integrated build-test-fly ecosystem, we give AAM companies real access to National Airspace up to 18,000 feet, BVLOS operations without chase planes through ground-based Detect-and-Avoid, and coordinated approval support built on more than a decade of agency relationships. We are also Ohio's coordinating hub for AAM, connecting innovators, universities, government, and industry partners at Springfield-Beckley Airport. The campus includes 30,000 square feet of collaboration space and 25,000 square feet of hangar space, with partnerships across AFRL, ODOT, and JobsOhio. For the companies building the future of flight: Test. Certify. Get to market faster. Learn more at naamce.com.

National Advanced Air Mobility Center of Excellence (NAAMCE) reposted this
This was the most historic thing I’ve had the chance to be a part of. I've had some remarkable ring-side seats in my life. Watching the Spurs win the 1999 NBA Finals from the front row at Madison Square Garden was pretty amazing. Selling 300 airplanes to China in one fell swoop in 2017 was extraordinary. Seeing Prime Ministers fall in cabinet coups from the room next door was humbling. But today was something different. Today, our EL2 Ultra Short airplane took off and landed at Downtown Skyport in Lower Manhattan. No runway required. It was a historic aviation moment for sure. But more important, it was a glimpse of what Direct Aviation can become for all of us. Regional flights closer to where we live and work. A future where "too far to drive, too short to fly" no longer has to define how we travel. There was an extraordinary team of Electra.aero talent behind today’s first. Our engineers, mechanics, pilots, flight-test crews and so many others have invested years of their lives turning audacious vision into practical reality. I couldn't be prouder of them. What's next for us? That's easy. This amazing team will keep on going. We are already building the ecosystem and infrastructure with the Federal Aviation Administration and our dozens of partners, so that when the #EL9 airplane arrives, the infrastructure is in place and the world of Advanced Air Mobility can get started. There's a lot more #LifeBeyondRunways ahead. I'm not done sitting front row to history. Let's go!
We said where we land next might surprise you. The third era of aviation just landed in Lower Manhattan. ✈️ Electra’s hybrid-electric, fixed-wing Ultra Short aircraft just completed a historic flight demonstration at the Downtown Skyport. No runway required. This latest chapter in Life Beyond Runways shows what becomes possible when an airplane needs just 150 feet to take off and land. Regional flights that reach city centers. Journeys that save hours. Military operations that can reach places conventional aircraft cannot. This is the promise of Direct Aviation - bringing flight closer to the places people need to go. What a day in Springfield. On Saturday, the Great American Electric Air Race brought pilots, teams, and families together at NAAMCE for a fly-in with a small air race celebrating the future of electric flight. Guests watched electric aircraft take to the sky, including Pivotal’s, met the pilots and teams behind them, and spent the afternoon on the field with food trucks and activities for the whole family. Thank you to every pilot, team, volunteer, and guest who joined us, and to everyone who made this week possible, from NAAMIF to STEM Day to Saturday’s race. #AdvancedAirMobility #AAM #eVTOL #ElectricAviation #NAAMCE #NAAMIF #Ohio #FutureofFlight

On Friday, students from across the region joined us at NAAMCE for STEM Day to see advanced air mobility up close. They took the controls at flight simulator stations, got hands-on with uncrewed aircraft alongside the people who build and fly them, and talked with teams from Wright-Patterson AFB STEM outreach about where a career in aerospace can start. Civil Air Patrol cadets from the Ohio Wing joined in, too, adding their names to the day. Thank you to every exhibitor, volunteer, and educator who made it possible. The future AAM workforce is already here in Ohio, and it was great to see so many of them in Springfield. The Great American Electric Air Race takes place today. #AdvancedAirMobility #AAM #STEM #NAAMCE #NAAMIF #Ohio #FutureofFlight

Thank you, JobsOhio, for sharing this and for being part of NAAMCE from the start. The groundwork JobsOhio, the City of Springfield, Dayton Development Coalition and the Air Force Research Laboratory laid years ago is why conversations like the ones at NAAMIF happen here. Grateful to JP Nauseef for joining the discussion this year. #AdvancedAirMobility #AAM #NAAMIF #NAAMCE #Ohio
Advanced air mobility (AAM) is moving from flight test to production and routine operations, and the industry is working through what that takes together. That was the focus as national leaders gathered at the National Advanced Air Mobility Center of Excellence (NAAMCE), the nation's only build-test-fly campus for AAM, for the fifth annual National Advanced Air Mobility Industry Forum (NAAMIF). Marc Allen of Electra.aero, Jim Rose of the Federal Aviation Administration, Blain Newton of BETA TECHNOLOGIES, Sergio Cecutta of SMG Consulting, Resonant Sciences LLC, REGENT, ERC System and JobsOhio President and CEO JP Nauseef weighed in on everything from certification and rate production to defense demand. That conversation happens in Ohio for a reason. In 2019, the FAA authorized 225 square miles of airspace around Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport for beyond-visual-line-of-sight testing. The City of Springfield, Dayton Development Coalition, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and JobsOhio then built NAAMCE, backed by a $2.9 million grant from its Ohio Site Inventory Program (OSIP) to prepare the site. Today, Joby Aviation is manufacturing propeller blades in the Dayton region, and Electra.aero chose Springfield for its $850 million production plant, expected to create 1,975 jobs, after a nationwide search of more than 140 sites. Five years in, NAAMIF and NAAMCE are where the nation comes to shape the future of flight, and Ohio's years of groundwork are why the industry is taking root here. Theodore Angel

Can you imagine a future where novel vehicles like this are fully integrated into the airspace? Not only can we imagine it, but we’re preparing for it. Yesterday, ODOT and DriveOhio released its Advanced Air Mobility Action Plan that outlines the steps to enable real-world AAM operations in Ohio. Don’t get me wrong - this vehicle is seriously cool. We also know success will depend not only on innovative aircraft, but also on building the physical infrastructure, digital systems, policies, and partnerships to support long-term growth. Read Ohio’s plan at https://lnkd.in/g52sAFG2 and reach out to ODOT AAM Director Robert Tanner to get involved.
