It’s National Pedestrian Safety Month, a good reminder of what it takes to share the road responsibly. How does a vehicle with no driver communicate with the people around it? There’s no eye contact or wave to say “go ahead.” So we had to rethink how sound can do that job instead. Our Safety, Experience Design, Research, and Sound Design teams partnered with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute to test purpose-built, non-speech audio cues, including for people with low vision or visual impairments. This year’s theme, Unidos, Somos Más (Together, We Are More), centers the strength that comes from community and the many cultures, languages, and traditions that make up Hispanic and Latin culture. We are excited to welcome back Barrie Dickinson as a Robot Line Director. Barrie brings over two decades of vehicle engineering leadership, starting his career at Jaguar before moving to Lotus and then Tesla, where he was the company's 12th hire and later became Roadster Chief Engineer. From there, he spent time at GoPro and Byton, plus four years at Zoox. Most recently, Barrie spent four years heading up the vehicle engineering team at Lightship. As Zoox moves toward commercialization, Barrie will play a key role on our Vehicle Development team. Welcome back, Barrie!
