As cross-border disputes are becoming increasingly complex, and businesses are seeking newer arbitration venues, Ireland is well-positioned to play a larger role in international arbitration. Earlier this month, the AAA-ICDR and Arbitration Ireland hosted an event where arbitration leaders, in-house counsel, and members of the Irish judiciary explored why Ireland is gaining traction as a bridge between the United States and Europe. Plus, they discussed what the AAA-ICDR’s expanding presence in Dublin could mean for businesses managing international disputes. Australian Arbitration week is off to a great start. The brilliant keynote speaker Niuscha Bassiri spoke on the important topics of “Why the Best Arbitrators Make Uncomfortable Decisions “ with the sage advice that “commerciality is a way of understanding the dispute not deciding it”. For decades I have been closely following developments as Colombia has become a major business and tourism destination. For the last fifteen or so years, its Supreme Court has fully embraced the principles of the New York Convention for prompt summary resolution of petitions to recognize and enforce foreign-seated international arbitration awards. With my co-author Diego Muñoz-Tamayo, we trace these developments for the Global Arbitration Review in our chapter "Challenging and Enforcing Arbitration Awards in Colombia."

The China Arbitration Summit 2026 and the China High-level Dialogue on Maritime and Commercial Arbitration, themed “International Arbitration in a Changing World”, convened in Beijing on Friday 18 September 2026, marking both the 60th anniversary of UNCITRAL and the 70th anniversary of CIETAC. 👏 In her opening remarks the Secretary of UNCITRAL Anna Joubin-Bret emphasized UNCITRAL’s longstanding work in developing harmonized, predictable legal frameworks, critical for facilitating trade and international dispute resolution. The event brought together judges, arbitrators, practitioners, academics and other stakeholders, with UNCITRAL #RCAP legal expert Adam Tang joining the first panel on principle-based innovations in arbitration practice to highlight UNCITRAL’s recent texts aimed at enhancing reliance on arbitral awards in electronic form and use of notices of arbitration in electronic form. Other issues discussed included the opportunities and challenges arising from the use of technology and artificial intelligence in arbitration, mediation and platform-based dispute resolution. UNCITRAL extends its appreciation to CIETAC and all supporters and participants for their contributions to this important dialogue, and in particular, their shared commitment to advancing transparent, predictable and harmonized approaches to international arbitration in a rapidly changing global environment. #UNCITRAL #UNCITRAL60 #CIETAC #arbitration #mediation #aiintrade

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀? The answer goes beyond confidentiality and procedural flexibility. One of the most compelling reasons is enforceability: while Liechtenstein court judgments have limited reach abroad, arbitral awards benefit from a framework for recognition and enforcement in more than 170 jurisdictions. In the 2026 edition of the Chambers International Arbitration Guide, our litigation and arbitration team – Moritz Blasy, Nicolai Binkert, Simon Ott and Christian Scheffknecht – examines the features that make Liechtenstein an attractive seat for international arbitration. Three aspects stand out: 1️⃣ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. Liechtenstein has bilateral enforcement treaties with only Austria and Switzerland. Arbitral awards, on the other hand, benefit from the New York Convention, with public policy objections interpreted narrowly. 2️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. The Liechtenstein Rules offer the flexibility of ad hoc arbitration alongside light-touch institutional support and extensive confidentiality safeguards – particularly relevant for disputes involving private wealth structures. 3️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. Arbitral awards can generally be challenged only within four weeks, before the Court of Appeal as the sole ordinary court instance. There is no review of the merits. Whether you are drafting a foundation statute or weighing up a seat for a cross-border dispute, it’s a practical read. 🔗 Read our Liechtenstein chapter: https://lnkd.in/eNEzZPnT 🔗 Explore the full Chambers guide: https://lnkd.in/eNDS9Ung #Chambers #InternationalArbitration #Liechtenstein #SchurtiPartners #ThinkingBusinessKnowingLaw
