About us

Women in Dispute Resolution, a committee of the ABA’s Section of Dispute Resolution, promotes the selection of women and other diverse arbitrators, mediators, and dispute resolution professionals. WIDR’s community, together with the Section’s many resources, fosters and enhances excellence among its members and the community of women and diverse neutrals. Counsel involved in the selection of dispute resolution professionals is encouraged to follow this page to receive insights and introductions to women and diverse neutrals, helping expand your lists of excellent diverse neutrals for selection. Each year, WIDR publishes a directory of its members. The 2022 directory is available at http://ambar.org/widrdirectory and is currently soliciting for the 2023 edition here: https://americanbar.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cwOJ4QolJTj1gRE. Please consider submitting your information by July 30, 2023. WIDR was a thought leader within the ABA in the 2018 adoption of Resolution 105, a call to action for each member of the ADR ecosystem to take concrete steps supporting the selection of diverse neutrals. The ABA’s call to action and a summary of the steps each constituent in the dispute resolution should be taking now to increase the selection of women and diverse arbitrators, mediators, and dispute resolution professionals are available here: https://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/administrative/dispute_resolution/leadership/aba-resolution-105-summary-and-action-steps.pdf

We are just under 2 weeks out from the International Ombuds Association annual conference and the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution's Skills Summit! If you've been on the fence about attending, hop onto the side of YES! Here's Liz and I bridging the distance in Boston today at Far Out Ice Cream. We shared some Kiwi-style ice cream and put the final touches on our excellent palate-cleansing social event (that has some fun and creative thinking opportunities). Our event kicks of the bridge between the IOA conference and the ABA Skills Summit. Registration to either the IOA Annual Conference OR the ABA DR Skills Summit gets you access to Wednesday’s joint programming. Register for the IOA Conference: https://lnkd.in/gqZT9NnE Register for the ABA DR Skills Summit: https://lnkd.in/gVKBX2yr *Each workshop is preapproved for 3 Certified Organizational Ombuds professional development hours.

  • The Section looks forward to connecting with the ABA Dispute Resolution community at our regional meet-ups and continuing conversations in person. Join us in San Antonio, LA, NYC, Houston, and Chicago!

✨Some conversations are just better in person.✨ While our ABA Section of Dispute Resolution programming is virtual this year, we’re being very intentional about creating in-person regional meet-ups to build connection, community, and relationships, the kind that are hard to replicate on a screen. These gatherings are meant to be easy, welcoming, and genuinely human. No panels. No formal programming. Just good conversation with people who care about this work. The first two are next month! 📍 San Antonio (ABA Midyear Meeting)
