McSweeney’s Internships

The McSweeney’s Internship period is now closed. We will reopen in early 2027 with applications for our summer internship position.

McSweeney’s Publishing is seeking editorial interns to join us in our San Francisco offices this summer. Much of the work will be centered on The Believer magazine, with additional opportunities to work on McSweeney’s Quarterly, Illustoria magazine, and books, plus potential work on sales, marketing, social media, and design. For the summer session, thanks to a grant from the Babou Memorial Fund, all interns will receive a $2,800 stipend for their work. Course credit eligibility is not required.

Who We Are:
McSweeney’s is an independent publisher in San Francisco committed to discovering outstanding new writing from all over the world and presenting it in ways that celebrate its worth and extend its reach. As a small press, we rely on the help of our volunteers and interns to pursue ambitious literary projects—projects that take risks, that support ideas beyond the mainstream marketplace, and that nurture emerging work.

Requirements:
This role requires a commitment of around 10 hours per week for the duration of the session. We’re mostly flexible about when those hours take place. No former experience or course credit eligibility required!

How To Apply:
Email your resume and cover letter detailing why you’d like to work with The Believer/McSweeney’s to [email protected], with the subject line “Summer 2026 Internship.” Please also briefly tell us about your past experience and favorite article or column from The Believer, or book published by McSweeney’s.
