Peter Turnbull posted thisSo AXA think in four years it’s acceptable & within their T&C to increase my premium by 62.3% when I’ve made ZERO claims? Not one claim, not one penny I have cost them. Not even used their free GP service. Then they decide to close my complaint without my authorisation as they tried to call me (and I called them back but the person who I was given to contact was busy). The most impersonal, patronising & verging on bullying customer experience I’ve had.

Peter Turnbull reposted thisPlease repost. Natalie Calvert ‘s issue is infuriating and must be addressed. It is also a symptom of deeper systemic issues that act against customers. LinkedIn is not the only firm that doesn’t prioritize delivering customer value ( ie reach - literally their value proposition) - it is a trend imo.Peter Turnbull reposted thisLinkedIn takes my money. They just don't believe Natalie Calvert exists. Let me explain. I married. I kept my professional name. Thirty+ years of work, reputation and relationships built under it. My website. My email. My domain. LinkedIn's invoice shows natalie@nataliecalvert.com. All Natalie Calvert. LinkedIn's verification system disagrees. Because my passport tells a different story - the way it does for millions of women who built careers under one name and married under another. LinkedIn's solution? Put both surnames on your profile - with one in brackets. Destroy your personal brand and identity. Or get a notarised affidavit. Around £100. A week to process. Then MAYBE. Neither option should exist. This is 2026. I have escalated this to several senior Linkedin executives. Same answer. No. The customer service? Mostly AI that doesn't answer the actual question. And honestly some of the worst I have ever experienced. I launched a new business, HuddleCX. Visibility was everything. Unverified accounts get less reach. Fewer impressions. Content that doesn't travel. It has honestly brought me to tears. This isn't a personal admin problem. Serena Williams. Sheryl Sandberg. Countless women operating under a professional name that doesn't match a passport. LinkedIn wasn't built with us in mind. That's a design flaw. Not an oversight. A flaw. So after nearly 6 months of emails etc I have had it. I'm getting the affidavit done. Jumping through every hoop. But I refuse to do it quietly. THE IRONY OF THIS POST REACHING VERY FEW PEOPLE IS NOT LOST ON ME. So here's my ask. If this resonates - please share it. Not for me. For every woman who has hit this wall and thought she was the only one. For every female professional who built a career under a name that doesn't match their passport and has no idea the algorithm is quietly working against them. And to the men in my network - this one's for you too. You probably had no idea this existed. Now you do. A share from you means more than you think. Maybe, just maybe we can make enough noise that LinkedIn finally has to listen. Has this happened to you? Or do you know someone it has? Or maybe you just didn't know this existed until now. If you've got this far - you already know what to do. Thank you. Peter Turnbull shared thisWent to The Ivy in Manchester last night. They f*cked things up. Wrong drinks, wrong main & then a 20 minute wait for the correct main. But do you know what we still tipped the guy 15%. Without asking they knocked 4 dirty martinis & the main off the bill without us asking. Yeah it didn’t all go well but the waiter was a lovely guy & to match it like me a Geordie too. Although at 1st I couldn’t tell but once I spoke it was unbelievable how his accent came back. At the end of the day we all make mistakes. Sometimes great service isn’t about everything going smoothly it’s how you adapt when things go wrong. ‘People buy people’ is a famous sales phrase & from the onset the guy built a great rapport. He was mortified too & I thought if all I have to worry about in life is the vodka martini was mixed the wrong way & my main course was a bit late then so what. I had a great catch up with my best mate too. Don’t sweat the small stuff. I’m lucky for what I have in life.

Peter Turnbull shared thisSo it’s 1 year today since I joined Openreach. Time does fly when you’re having fun. After 25 years in BT Group I made the move to Openreach. It’s been one of the most fulfilling & enjoyable years of my career. My key call outs & positives have been; • field visits, great to spend time with our fantastic engineers & learn so much doing so • the move to the Leeds office & for the 1st time in over 20 years being sat with a team I actually work with as well as my manager & stakeholders. The speed you can resolve & learn just by hearing conversations happening next to you. • the phenomenal roll out of FTTP with the support of GB Ops with both parts of Service Delivery being integral • how we operate in our more remote areas like the Highlands & Islands to the Isles of Scilly & the unique challenges they face Most importantly how Health & Safety is the centre of everything. The only downsides I can think of is the free Yorkshire tea in the Leeds office is too strong (prefer Ringtons being a Geordie), teaspoons in the kitchen are like hens teeth & the new team are too obsessed with sweet treats rather than crisps, cheese & nuts. Any regrets? Only that I’d not made the move sooner. Peter Turnbull shared thisDefinitely made me think!Peter Turnbull shared thisJoin my #RedCord mission - untie the knots as a simple sign of support for the disabled community and a first step to better understanding. If you don’t have a disability, there are many barriers you don’t see. I know because I can remember my life before I became disabled. Now I see those barriers every day - roadworks erected across dropped kerbs and doors too heavy to open being my current pet hates. They force me to seek help from strangers passing by - which is neither safe nor good for my sense of self-sufficiency. But the biggest frustration is perhaps the tied up red cord in accessible toilets. Often a lot of work has gone into the job. But it tells a fundamental story of misunderstanding and misplaced kindness. And so it makes me cross and sad in equal measure. The red cord is a lifeline - anyone who fails needs the cord to be in reach to pull for help. Such a simple thing. Scuppered if the red cord is out of reach. I have never used the red cord. I can still get up when I fall, but many cannot. When I talked about my experience in a Manchester hotel recently, one lady said she always unties the knot and teaches her children to do the same. What a powerful message about inclusion and respect for those with different needs. So, you can show support by one very simple action. If you ever see a red cord not hanging straight to the floor, please untie it. Post a picture. You’ll signal that you respect the needs of the disabled community, and may even save a life.

Peter Turnbull shared thisThis is fantastic! Well done to all involved.Peter Turnbull shared thisNot the mascots I was expecting… 👀 Before the England v Wales match last night, 22 adults living with dementia walked out with the players as part of the FA’s partnership with Alzheimer’s Society. It genuinely caught me off guard. Each person symbolised what life can be like with dementia - a condition that touches so many lives, often quietly 😔 This moment gave visibility to those whose stories often go unseen, building awareness in a way words alone can’t. A special reminder of how sport’s influence can help shine a light where it’s needed most 👏🧡 (video cred: ITV)

Peter Turnbull shared thisWhat’s your view on ties? Do you think they are an integral part of office attire or outdated? Or on a wider subject, looking at how office wear has changed over the last 20 years do you think it’s become too relaxed, still too formal, just right or something else? Obviously the type of office or profession you work in can play an important factor too.

Peter Turnbull liked thisNavigating Change, One Bullseye at a Time 🎯 Change is a constant in our industry, but leading a team through a period of transition requires more than just updated roadmaps—it requires human connection. At TalkTalk, we know that while the "what" and the "how" of our work might evolve, our people remain our greatest strength. We are a business built on connecting others, but this week was about connecting with each other. We took a moment to step away from the screens and lean into that by transforming our events space into the TalkTalk Tavern. Between the pizza, the darts, and a (very) high-stakes quiz, we saw our values in action through the power of simply being together: • We Care: Transition periods are intense. Taking a breath to decompress, laugh, and truly listen to one another is how we look after our collective wellbeing. 🍕 • We Challenge: Whether it was hitting a double-top or debating quiz answers, that competitive spirit reminded us that we thrive when we push—and support—each other. 🏹 • We Commit: The massive turnout proved our team is fully invested. We aren't just committed to the mission; we are committed to the people sitting across the table from us. 🤝 A quick status report from the "Landlord": The night was a roaring success. We're happy to report that the "bouncers" on the door had the easiest shift in history—nobody had to be shown the exit! However, the same can't be said for our supplies; we might need a total restock of the cellar after that performance. 🍻 The energy in the room was a powerful reminder: Change is easier when you’re moving through it together. When we strengthen the bonds between our people, we build a foundation that can handle any transformation. A huge thank you to everyone who made the night a success. It’s the people that make the culture, and our connection is what keeps us anchored as we head toward the next chapter. #TalkTalk #CompanyCulture #Leadership #ChangeManagement #WeCare #WeCommit #WeChallenge #LifeAtTalkTalk #TalkTalkTavern #Connection

I’m now 5 days in: No nicotine. No vape. No cloud following me around. Do I feel better? Yes. My cough is starting to fade My chest feels less tight Sleep is improving (minus a separate back issue…) Overall, definitely heading in the right direction. But let’s be real about the downsides: My patience is… limited 😅 Cravings are still very much there I could easily fold if I let myself And I’m eating a lot more (especially anything sweet) That said, I know this is short-term pain for long-term gain. Next milestone: 30 days. Hoping by then it’s all upside. Peter Turnbull liked thisPeter Turnbull liked thisHappy Vaisakhi to everyone celebrating 🪯 🌾✨ This Tuesday marked Vaisakhi (or Khalsa Sajna Divas) those who may not be familiar, Vaisakhi is one of the most important days in the Sikh calendar, coinciding with the harvest festival in Panjab. It marks the creation of the Khalsa in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, a defining moment that shaped Sikh identity and values. Creating Sikhism as we know it today, bestowing us with the 5 K’s At its core, Vaisakhi represents courage, equality, selfless service (seva), and standing up for what is right, it’s also a time of community, reflection, and new beginnings. Across the world, Sikhs come together to celebrate, give thanks, and reconnect with these values , not just in faith, but in how we live our everyday lives. It is also seen celebrated through Nagar Kirtans, community processions filled with music, seva, and free food for all, reflecting the core Sikh values of equality and togetherness For me, it’s a reminder to stay grounded, keep learning, and continue striving to make a positive impact, especially during times of change and growth. From me and mine to you and yours. I wish you a very happy Vaisakhi 🪯♥️ #Vaisakhi #Sikh #Sikhism #Khalsa #Waheguru #Faith #Seva #DiversityAndInclusion #PersonalGrowth #Gratitude

Peter Turnbull liked thisPeter Turnbull liked thisSome days you just feel inspired! We recently had the privilege of welcoming Sarah Walker, Chief Executive at Cisco UK & Ireland, into Oliver James. It’s safe to say the impact will last far beyond the day itself. Sarah joined us to create a series of leadership content sessions, centred around the idea of Listening First, a key topic in the OJ Charter. In a world where everyone is focused on being heard, her perspective was a powerful reminder that the best leaders start by truly understanding others. We also had the opportunity to ask Sarah some questions on topics that are relevant to all, as she shared honest, practical insights on: ✨ How to influence effectively in both sales and leadership ✨ The role mentorship has played in her career (and how to get it right!) ✨ The importance of intentional planning (and a simple diary tip) ✨ And how to stay motivated through the inevitable challenges of leadership It wasn’t theory, it was real, experience-led advice from someone operating at the very top of their field. For a team like ours, supporting and engaging talent every day, these conversations are invaluable. They shape not just how we work, but how we grow as individuals. A huge thank you again Sarah for your time, openness, and energy! #ListeningFirst #Leadership #Mentorship #LearningAndDevelopment

Peter Turnbull liked thisPeter Turnbull liked thisToday marks a year since the Supreme Court ruled that woman and man under the Equality Act should be defined in terms of biological sex. I'll be honest, as someone who is fortunate enough to know and love trans people, it's been tough to see the real-world results unfold. The ruling has been used to justify the exclusion and active scapegoating of one of the most marginalised groups in our society. And it's been done, in a large part, in the name of women. NION Women - Not In Our Name - was formed in direct response. We started with an open letter. The message was simple: stop using women as cover for anti-trans rhetoric, the real causes of violence against women and girls are well documented - hint trans people are not the problem. One year on, we are just 100 signatures away from 100,000 women who agree. With your help - today is the day we pass that milestone - an incredible testament to the love and support that exists for this community. If you haven't already added your name - do it now. Safer SIMs an important strategic area for BT/EE 🚸 We expect EE's new Safer SIMs for U18s to prove very popular (with parents at least). So too their in-store appointments for help in setting up any phone (old or new) for appropriate child protections (available from mid August). 👨👩👧 Family plans are incredibly important to BT Group/EE in addressing the lower end of the market, together with their convergence plans. The company seems to be shying away from reintroducing a sub-brand at the value end of the market - a different approach to their reinvigoration of the Plusnet brand on broadband 📈 They probably feel that what they're doing is working just fine for now. They just had a really strong quarter on mobile contract net adds, counter to the network operator trends over the past few quarters, and well ahead of the MNO competition. We suspect that these new U18 plans will be a bolster in the coming quarters, and is a smart move in a strategically important space for them Thanks to Claire Gillies and Jonny Bunt for an engaging session on an issue that's arguably top of most parents' agendas. Fibre Network Maturity Stage 2: Operational Strain This stage usually arrives quietly. The network is live. Customers are connected. But suddenly the operational teams start asking difficult questions. ➡️ How is this cable routed? ➡️ Why does the design not match the as-built? ➡️ These fibre allocations are already in use, what shall we use instead? ➡️ Why are two teams working off different data? The network still works. But behind the scenes, friction starts building. Operational inefficiencies, documentation gaps, and inconsistent data begin to slow things down. At this point many operators realise something important: The network isn’t just infrastructure. It’s also a data asset. That realisation leads to Stage 3: Governance Realisation.

Yesterday we held Women in Telecoms Group 3rd Anniversary!! It has been a busy 3 years for the group and we are immensely proud of what we have achieved as a collective but also what we have each achieved as individuals. Nicola Kemp did a fab job showcasing this in the video uploaded, so a big shout out to you! Part of our celebration we were joined by Irina Iovita, who presented to the group the findings from 2025 Lovelace Report; Unlocking £2-3.5 Billion The Value of keeping Women in Tech. I would like to say, that I wouldn't be shocked by their findings but I was, that figure is HUGE!! Change has to happen for the following reasons from the report they ran, these are the figures: 📈 7% of women leave the industry compared the +11.5% of men 📈 80% of women have recently switched roles or are interesterd in exiting their tech role 📈 60% earn less then £100k compared to the male average of £150k 📈 25% see limited direction and opportunity in their career pathway 📈 Surprisingly, as this has been the narrative in the past, only 3% cited caring commitments the reason for leaving. The takeaway from this, more needs to be done to attract, retain and progress women in the tech industry. Especially given it is estimated that 98-120,000 more tech professionals are needed to meet the UK's AI and Digital demands. We then had Ruth Sloss to give our group a interactive coaching session on; Seeing the Value in Ourselves. We may not be able to impact the above immediately within the industry but we can impact it for ourselves. I found this session fun but extremely useful for future tips, that I will definitely use. ☀️ We can develop our EQ ☀️ Low self confidence should not hold back your career ☀️ Remember your posture ☀️ Breathe ☀️ Be conscious of the words you use, "Just" and "Sorry" ☀️ What if Imposter was actually a critical friend? ☀️ Listen , Evidence and Learning It really was a fantastic afternoon, spent with the best women! You all inspire me everyday with everything you achive and do in your careers and personal life, We love celebrating this, which we did with our "Shout Outs" so keep them coming! Shout Out to Maisie Taylor Allie Pennington Obiageli (Obii) O. for your new roles Nicola Kemp Jen Kierce for your hard work on the podcasts and Fiona Kearns for your contimued support and hard work on our Career dev group to create the mentoring group. Here's to year 4 which we foresee to be bigger and busier than the last so remember to get involve! Natalie Strange and I want you all to be part of this and join us in our conitnued support and impacting for change! Remember, Our voices together are louder and stronger! #womenintelecoms #ccuk

As a telecoms leader, I spend a fair bit of time thinking about things most people assume “just work.” Take phone numbers, for example. You dial. It connects. Job done. Except…not always. Ofcom has been handing out Jersey phone numbers for over 20 years without any actual legal authority to do so. A loophole spotted in 2024 means that unless Jersey passes new telecoms legislation, the island could literally run out of numbers. Guernsey’s already sorted it. Now Jersey needs to catch up. It’s one of those wonderfully British problems: absolutely critical, yet somehow overlooked for two decades. Source - https://lnkd.in/eZFFHeVp

Is the UK government's Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) plan going to have delivered on its objectives? It's currently being evaluated, and according to the evaluation framework: "By improving access to gigabit capable broadband, the LFFN programme is designed to deliver significant benefits ... For households, take-up of an enhanced connection should lead to improved access to online services, including essential services such as healthcare, government portals, and digital education. Faster broadband also facilitates the increased use of the internet for education, work, or leisure, supporting activities such as remote working, online learning, and entertainment." We'll see what the evaluation report says, but we can get some insight from Ofcom's Technology Tracker, which asks people about their use of services like those above, and which ISPs they use. If full fibre was important for these services, we might expect usage to be higher in altnet households, which will by definition be using full fibre. However, this isn't what the data shows. As you can see in the chart, usage of these various services is the same in the altnet and the other households. Indeed, it is higher in the other households for a number of services, though this is likely statistical noise. [A couple of notes of caution. The Technology Tracker only asks respondents about Hyperoptic, Gigaclear and Community Fibre, so these are the 'select ISPs'. And there will be full fibre connections (both from other altnets and from BT, Sky etc) in the other ISPs. Thus this isn't a clean, FTTH vs FTTC comparison, just a proxy]. None of this should be a surprise to anyone. Much of the industry has long acknowledged (at least in private) that the vast majority of consumer needs are met very well with FTTC. Indeed, filing your tax return, say, is possible with dial-up. Whether the government will recognise this is another question.

🚨 Warning! 35% of mast site providers in the UK are now considering walking away from hosting mobile infrastructure, citing steep rent cuts, aggressive legal tactics, and a breakdown in trust with Code operators. Important to analyse these results and the corelation that they may have to the proliferation of Notices to Quit (NTQs) leading to the dismantlement of wireless sites and subsequent network coverage and capacity issues.

⚠️ 48,000 UK homes still can’t get a decent broadband connection in 2025. Body: That’s not just a statistic, it’s a reminder that while we talk about gigabit speeds and AI-driven networks, some communities are still being left behind. ✅ Independent ISPs could be the key to solving this. They’re nimble, community-focused, and genuinely motivated to connect people, not just balance spreadsheets. 💥 If the locations of these 48,000 homes were made easier to find, altnets and wireless providers could collaborate, plan micro-builds, and finally close the gap. There’s no shortage of technology or talent, just a lack of transparent data. 💡 What if the next broadband breakthrough isn’t a new network… but a new level of openness? #Telecoms #Broadband #DigitalDivide #UKConnectivity #Altnets #RuralBroadband #ProjectGigabit #EthicalAI #LetsTalk

Proud of this one. At Gigabit IQ, we’ve always believed that safety shouldn’t stop at the Wi-Fi router. Yes, we build safer internet with FamilyGuard+ and CyberGuard+, but real life doesn’t happen only online. That’s why we’ve partnered with Careline365, to help protect elderly and vulnerable people in the moments that matter most, not just on screens. With the UK moving through the digital landline switchover, millions of older people who rely on personal alarms and telecare are being forced to think about whether their protection will still work. For many families, that’s stressful, confusing, and easy to put off. We don’t think it should be. Careline 365’s 24/7 monitored, SIM-enabled personal alarms are built for this new digital world. They don’t rely on old copper phone lines, and they’re designed to keep people safe at home and on the move. For us, this partnership is simple: Be the provider that doesn’t just talk about speed, but actually cares about people. Be the provider that thinks about families, carers, and the elderly. Be the provider that helps protect life both online and offline. If you’re supporting an elderly parent, grandparent, or vulnerable loved one, this is exactly the kind of change worth acting on now, not later. You can read more about why we’ve done this and what it means here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eFqwJdMk Because a truly safer internet — and a safer digital future — should include everyone. #GigabitIQ #Careline365 #DigitalSwitchover #Telecare #ElderlyCare #FamilySafety #SaferBroadband #ProviderThatCares #OnlineAndOfflineSafety

Implementing the SWUK Waste Management Protocol has been a significant change in practice for our operations at CityFibre. Rolling this out across 17 delivery partners, while coordinating sampling and testing in a fast‑moving telecommunications build environment, has not been without its challenges. It requires close collaboration, adaptability, and a real commitment to doing the right thing as ways of working evolve. A genuine thank you to my team, our waste testing provider, contractor partners, and internal teams for the collective effort and support in getting this off the ground. We’ve made a strong start, with more learning and refinement still to come as the process beds in. If others have experience of implementing the SWUK protocol, particularly in complex or operationally pressured environments, I’d be really interested to hear your insights. Please feel free to reach out.

Thrilled that Virgin Media O2 has gifted 1,000 refurbished smartphones and free O2 data to the residents in Coventry who need them most. Delivered through the council's Device Bank, these phones will help people access essential services, reconnect with loved ones, and take steps towards employment or training, all while reducing e-waste across the city. Coventry City Council's #CovConnects programme is something that many cities across the UK can learn from. A huge thank you to our teams at Virgin Media O2, Hubbub, and Coventry City Council for making an ambitious project a reality.

When your biggest competitor is evolving, the real risk isn’t losing pace; it’s staying on a path nobody’s walking anymore. Drawing on my ILM training and years of observing the telecommunications sector, I’ve noticed many organisations clinging to legacy strategies long after their relevance has faded. The shift happens when leaders apply quantum reframing, enabling them to see yesterday’s strategies as obsolete, rather than preserving them as sacred relics. Novartis’s 2025 global leadership report reveals that one in three executives believes strategy discussions are lagging behind actual market shifts, a gap that agile, presence-based recalibration can help bridge. What one strategic assumption could you reframe this week to lead with presence, not lagging precision? #ExecutiveLeadership #StrategicThinking #QuantumCoaching #LeadershipDevelopment #ILMLearning Inspired by “Leadership in the Future of Healthcare” — Novartis Global Leadership Report, 2025 (paraphrased).

Looking for my next role • 900 followers
I thought I would just put some of my thoughts out there regarding the current uncertain job market. Many people losing there job recently in telecoms are stating that they are looking for Supervisor, Project Manager or Senior Project manager in a telecoms market that is on its knees compared to the past years. In my perspective it may be better to get a professional CV writer to look at your skills set and write this in a way that will better transfer your skills also into other sectors rather than multiple roles in the same sector. You are very unlikely to get a promotion to a higher job at the moment as there will be many experienced people at that level already going for the role. Open out to other sectors. On the flip side companies are blocking people from coming into industries by stating they need years of experience in that sector rather than looking at transferable skills. The rail industry has done this for years so how do they get fresh people into the industry. Just my thoughts and good luck to all those people in the unfortunate position of losing their job and hunting for something new.
